Hrithik Roshan’s latest release Bang Bang has done well enough in India to earn itself ‘HIT’ status. In the overseas markets, business was outstanding – Bang Bang is Hrithik’s highest grosser to date and also the highest grossing film overseas this year ahead of Salman Khan’s Kick.
Let’s take a look at the business economics of the film.
- Total investment: Bang Bang was produced and promoted at a cost of Rs 140 crore, including Hrithik Roshan’s acting fee.
Recovery
- Music rights: 5 crore
- Overseas share: 34 crore (expected)
- India share: 52 crores (expected from circuits distributed by Fox)
- Satellite rights: 40-45 crore (approx, rights with Star TV Network)
- Recovery from circuits sold to individual distributors: 32 cr
- Total recovery – 163 - 168 crore
Overall, Bang Bang is a profitable film for Fox Star Studios. The trade expected a 200 crore grosser, which is why Bang Bang is perceived to have under-performed in India. Individual distributors in circuits like Rajasthan, C.I, C.P Berar will lose some of their investment, but that is only because of the premium they paid for the rights.

Bangbang sold 7.11cr to rajashan circuit but at best it can collect share of 4cr so 3cr loss,cp berar sold 5.50cr at best colect 3.5cr share loss 2cr,individual all other distributor can just close their investment but no profit for their flop,@indicine why u follow only producer’s fake collection at bo as hrithik’s film give much higher collection than original?last time for #krrish3 its about 54cr manipulation at bo,now #bangbang original collection just about 125.50cr for hindi nd 4.75cr for tamil nd telugu after 11 days so there is min 24cr difference from actual collection,foxstar is giving higher collection only they want to prove their prduct is best but #bangbang is a failure

So, it is the first movie in 150 crore club domestically and 300 crore globally which is neither a blockbuster or ATBB.
300+ gross worldwide shows it has been a success. Under performed about 25-30 crore in domestic market.
i dont know why some srk and hr fans are fighting with each other…..srk and hr are gud friends……real srk and hr fan luv both…..so just chill yar and cooperate…
@Gautam, I understand your feelings, but despite recording highest occupancy for any film in 2014, it could only collect 27 crore on its opening day as number of shows were decreased, lesser than Singham Returns and even Mary Kom in many cities, which affected its business in first few days, as it had no chance to touch 30 crore figure even once.
Then due to negativity around it (mixed WOM, negative from critics), it couldn’t sustain well enough in weekdays. Just like a huge success has various factors behind it like star power, holiday, festive period, trailer, music, release timing (solo release), and content to do well in weekdays, a failure or under performer too has various reasons as we saw in case with Jai Ho and Kick, and now Bang Bang.
It didn’t trend well in weekdays like most of blockbusters, but it could have done way better in opening weekend if it was a solo release. So, yeah it has under performed domestically, but it didn’t exactly have “everything” in its favor.

Salmans maximum movies had negative rating in recent years but it collected huge so none gives damn to ratings and bang bang would hv collected this much even in worst care scenario and word of mouth is not entirely neagtive.It shd hv crossed 200 atleast
If we take box office all big stars films r hits. If movie is bad only a few distributors will lose small amount of money. According to box office it will be termed as hit but people don’t care about these collections. They only know HIT or FLOP. But box office gives 10 different verdicts which people don’t care. BANG BANG got ‘HIT’ status but for people its FLOP. Even Ra.One got ‘HIT’ status but people will laugh at us if we say Ra.One is a HIT. Even JAI HO got ABOVE AVG status but all say its FLOP. So a box office BLOCKBUSTER is only a clear HIT for people. Any status below BLOCKBUSTER is a flop. This theory is only for BIG STARS.

@SRK Express, Yes, PK trailer is releasing on the same day but in an event to be held separately. If it is attached with HNY, it will just show how powerful Aamir Khan is. Distributors will do anything for a few more crores. The distributors know how to deal other businessmen or businessman cum producer of hny.
