Ban on Pakistani actors in India: More opinions

Actors like Om Puri, Nagesh Kukunoor, Nana Patekar, Kangana Ranaut, John Abraham, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and a few others have spoken about the ban on Pakistani actors in India.

Here’s what they had to say:

Om Puri: When the government is taking an action, we all should stay quiet. It hardly matters if we send back the artists from Pakistan, who are working here, or let them stay. I have been to Pakistan six times and have met people from all strata.. I have always received love and warmth. If the Pakistani actors leave the projects they are doing here in middle, then people in India (filmmakers) will also face financial loss. Hence, this is insignificant. The actors have not come here through any illegal way. They have valid visa. But, if the government will ask them to leave, then it is different

Nan Patekar: Pakistani artists are secondary. What comes first for me is my nation. I neither know nor would I want to know anyone else other than my nation. Hum kalaakar desh ke saamne khatmal ki tarah hai. Hamari keemat kuch nahi hai. (We artistes are like mere termites when compared to our nation as a whole. We are least important people). Nation comes first and that’s how it should be for one and all. I have been a part of Indian army for two-and-a-half years and I know that our Jawans fighting at the border are the real heroes. Our soldiers are the biggest heroes in the world. We actors aren’t the real heroes and people shouldn’t pay heed to what we actors say. We shouldn’t be taken seriously. People should stop paying heed to actors who keep blabbering about Pakistani artists. Don’t give too much importance to those actors as they aren’t deserving of that importance.

Nagesh Kukunoor: I have always believed that art should stand alone. Even if you take the worst periods in a nation’s history, World War II, art still had its voice. I don’t think the two should be mixed. Having said that, the India-Pakistan situation is an extremely complex one. We are all part of the same country. 60-70 years is a very short period to actually find some kind of peaceful common ground.

Madhur Bhandarkar: Definitely the artists are not terrorists, and I believe that art has no boundary but the situation today is very different. When you see our 19 soldiers have been killed, and when we see the whole scenario… I feel a lot of Pakistani artists who work here they should have condemned the attacks on India over the years. When they can condemn US attack, when they can condemn Istanbul, Paris (attacks), all those attacks then why not India? My problem is that. When Peshawar attack happened, everybody in India condemned. So, if the Pakistani actors feel it (the attack) is happening over here, they should at least tweet about it. Right now I think nothing is bigger than the country.

Kangana Ranaut: Right now we are very overwhelmed with the loss of our soldiers, our jawans and our sons. So the country is not in that (frame of mind). It’s very hard to be objective right now. But we hope that the love and art prevail. Right now we can’t expect people to be objective. It’s such a big loss.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui: This is our government’s job. Our government has a lot of expertise who look after these matters and policies. Being an artist I have no opinion on this controversy. This is not my job. Government decides it and it is their duty.

John Abraham: I feel fortunate to be part of the industry to promote and express our solidarity with our country and for the soldiers who are true heroes of this country.

  • film fatarnity is afraid to speak their heart…if they speak about letting work pak artist then they might term as anti national….can you tell me what is intolerance…..I writing this it doesn’t mean I am supporting paki actors….just thought

  • I believe whatever movies the pakistani artists are already a part of should not be banned. It is just commonsense, where the pakistani actors like Fawad or mahira had already got their passing checks!!! If you ban a movie now you are only punishing your own people and not Pakistanis. Huge losses will be incurred by Indian producers, other Indian actors, Indian exhibitors, Indian distributors and a lot of thousands who work in the background of each movie from spot boy onwards… All these are Indians.

  • I am pakistani and cinema here have banned bollywood movies , if india had done that with our actors we would able to watch bollywood movies but na as always india show aggression and then in return pak shows too and in the end both nations suffer

  • Our boys have just about returned from across the Line of Control after a very successful surgical strike. The entire nation is delirious with joy; the entire nation, except a few.

Today, I was part of a panel discussion in JNU, interestingly called “Intellectual Terrorism”. The term is self-explanatory, though wide ranging. I will discuss one type of intellectual terrorism here. The proponents of this type of terror are to found in every walk of life, but the roots of this disease are embedded in some institutions of higher learning. More of that some other time.

Karan Johar wants to know if asking Fawad Khan to go back to Pakistan will stop terror. Mahesh Bhatt joins the chorus by saying “stop terrorism, not talks” implying that we must continue to talk to Pakistan. The cricket board will continue to play matches with Pakistan. Certain business houses will continue to do business with Pakistan. All this, while our soldiers are dying on the border.
Will sending Pakistani artists back, stopping cricket and business with Pakistan actually end terror from Pakistan? No, it most certainly will not. But there is an emotion called solidarity. You cannot make films, play cricket and do business as if everything is fine, because it is not. It makes the soldier wonder aloud, “Why should I alone bear the weight of conflict?”

This conflict between India and Pakistan is not the soldier’s personal war. He is dying and killing for you and me. Imagine a situation in which the soldier felt, and behaved, like Karan Johar and Mahesh Bhatt? Imagine if a soldier walked up to his superior and said, “Sir, while I am dying on the Line of Control, these people are going about as if everything is absolutely fine between the two countries.”

How many of you would like it if a soldier felt that this was not his personal war, and he, like Mahesh Bhatt, should walk across the Line of Control and shake hands with a Pakistani soldier? Why should he alone sacrifice for India, when others were making merry?

A soldier will die before the thinks of such treason, but its certainly food for thought, isn’t it? Patriotism and sacrifice is not the sole responsibility of the soldier. India is Mahesh Bhatt’s country, as much as it is the soldier’s.
The United States boycotted the Moscow Olympics in 1980, and the Russians did likewise when they boycotted the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984. This is what happens when national interest is held paramount. And this is what must happen now.
For 70 years, Pakistan has been killing Indian citizens. Are we so inured to the pain of our fellow brethren that making a movie or playing a cricket match takes precedence over a soldier’s mourning home?

18 families have been shattered like glass. Not a word for them by our Bollywood royalty, mind you. But the pain of Fawad Khan’s departure is too much to bear, it seems. A tweet in support of Pakistani artists is mandatory.

These directors and producers will have you believe that before Rahat Fateh Ali Khan sang for Bollywood, there was no music of significance in the Hindi film industry. The cricket board is so busy making money that a widow’s silent sob and an orphan’s scream does not matter. What actually matters are day and night matches between India and Pakistan. The most keenly contested sporting event in history, they say; even better than the Ashes.

And the soldiers? Well, as far as they are concerned, they are on another planet, far removed from the glitzy Bollywood studios, and the teak paneled walls of the stately boardrooms of the BCCI. The blood, the mud, the screams and the exploding gunpowder are just distant and inconvenient, not very different from traffic during the Mumbai monsoons. Life must go on.
Its easy to ask for peace when you are a thousand miles away from the Line of Control, and your primary concerns are which party to attend this evening and where to get financing for your next film.
Peace is not a punch line. It is the end result of war.

There is a 10-year-old girl, Aditi, who understands the nation and its ebbs and flows far better than Mahesh Bhatt and Karan Johar. See her letter attached. Then see the poster made by Mahesh Bhatt, which he so proudly displays.

I leave it to you to decide who speaks for you. My vote goes to Aditi. This little angel has the spirit of a soldier. The others have mala fide intent.

    Jai Hind.

There is better film called SHIVAAY releasing this Diwali… so ppl can watch it instead…

Audience is not dying to see adulterated rom coms of Kjo with no message to society n spreads infidelity n wrong moral values.

  • Great words by nana …our soldiers are protecting us like our guardians..and some people like Salman with low level IQ sitting in safe air conditioning place speaks about solidarity with Pakistan and it’s artist..pz be Indian and boycott such fake anti nationals

There is better film Ajay Devgn ‘s SHIVAAY magnum opus full of emotions n stunts n moral values ..afflicted to Lord Shiva releasing this Diwali… so ppl can watch it instead…

Audience is not dying to see adulterated rom coms of Kjo with no message to society n spreads infidelity n wrong moral values…

    #SHIVAAY

  • Nana. really ur great actor and truley Indian
    who respect army
for me also India comes first
don’t give much importance to Pakistani actor

  • Ban Artists or not!! .. I am not watching Adhm.. I will go for Shivaay….

i am already done with this rom com shit of Kjo.. i don’t care whether it will receive paid positive reviews just like bbd.. , i m more interested in Shivaay as a film…

  • kya ho gaya bollywood ko aur kya ho gaya Karan Johar ko…pyar pyar iske
alawa topic hi nhi hota hai…ufff…kahan gaye wo din jab A Wednesday,
Swades, Chak De, Paan Singh Tomar, D Day, Mother India jaise movies aur
kahan ye Mummy, Aishwarya(43) and Ranbir(33) ki love story…kya baat
    ….

what we have realised till now that how much PR work karan johar has done ….. aur kahan kahan kitna maal khilaya hai usne. its bollywood vs ajay devgan this time …

    Reason why
    # ADHM will be flop because
–>wohi risto ka hutiyapa…iski biwi uske saath, flop actor actress, wohi filmi drama….film verdict totally depends on arijit song…as of teaser…if arijit song was not there …teaser wouldn’t cross even 2M views

And # SHIVAAY will be blockbuster because
–> never seen vfx, content , suspense in trailer, AJ sir superb acting and his own performed action, romance, revenge,God Shiva name in movie at the time of Diwali, totally different style other than typical Bollywood masala movie…. Along with its trailer got awesome response

    So #Shivaay = Blockbuster
#Adhm= flop (may be hit due to Arijit)

  • now i can hope srk delay raees either cut her all scenes and sone important one replaced by indian artist otherwise not only his movie fails but his entire image which is nothing today also damaged completely ,no indian will watch his movies except 30-40 lakhs fans ,,,,,,hope he will understand the present condition ,,he is very unlucky again

  • Bollywood people need to go Kashmir and see the problem created by pakistan we should stop contact with Pakistani we don’t have any profit only loss of our jawans
only Bollywood are earning crores of rupees from pakistan but we common people are not earning single penny
my request to Indians pls give job to Indians
there are so many talented person in India
we should stop suicide pls give jib to jobless

  • I am a supporter of nana… but still m not fully agreed with his statement. Rather madhur bhandarkar was spot on… just perfect… both maharashtrians :-)

  • DEPENDS.
If they condemn attacks on India,
If they address the issue of terrorism then We shouldnt
But if they are not taking any stand then We should ban all Pakistani artists.
The money these artists get, they send it back home & indirectly it is going to help Pakistan and its economy.
As I said India has much more TALENT available than most countries of the world.
Hundreds of actors come to Mumbai to struggle.
Nawazuddin,Irfan Khan,Manoj Bajpayee have struggled for over 15 years.
So We should promote our own talent.

  • shivaay is looking like sumthing out of the box
waiting for all it music & videos
despite being a amazing trailer it does not got kind of support it deserved by bolly industry fellows as crappy romantic cliched shit adhm got…

But tables have turned, true indians r going to boycott Adhm n watch Shivaay this diwali..

  • I personaly like Nana Patekar god of acting in Marathi he said ” jyanchi layki nahi bolaychi tyana evdhe importance deu naka tumhala mahiti na me kona baddal bolat aahe ” ( jinki aukat nahi hain ye bolne ki don’t give importance them u understand that mein kiske baare bol raha hoon ) .
What will happen if any soldier will read the newspaper usko pata chalega ki yaha hum border pak ke sath ladh rage hain air yaha Pakistan ko support kar rahe to unhe kya lagega . Our soldiers were killed by eunuch Pakistani soldiers . Yaha India soldiers ke family ko support karna chahiye naki show sympathy against Paki actor . Indian film has been banned in India why salman not talked about their film industry .

  • All have valid points.
But Nawaz has worked with Mahira Khan in Raees recently, indirectly he is saying that he has no problem in banning the movie …LOL

  • Send Nana to Kashmir to see innocent kashmiris graves. Then take him to families of Pakistani & Indian soldiers ….. Stop hate….. start talks to solve Kashmir issue…… so that India Pak & Kashmiris can have win win situation………. Shame on Nana type Fanatic religious cheaps always creating hate in the name of so called Bharat mata………… JAI HUMINITY….salutes Salman KARAN & Fawad MAIRA

  • Worried the Govt did nothing post #UriAttacks? Here is something you can do. Completelyboycott # ADHM& #Raees. Watch # Shivaayinstead.

    @ indicine
Would you have said the same thing if fawad khan was a part of # Shivaay? OFCOURSE NOT! # BoycottADHM ….

    Shivaay this Diwali…

  • On puri Sir and Kangana ….made sense.

    The rest too are inclined.

Nana.. You were in Indian army ,so if your country comes first why did you leave d battle field and opt for entertainment??

Pls,I know its not easy,we all feel so bad,but does it mean we incurr loss to SRK and that other guy(Ranbir director)?? While Fawad who collected his cool money for Adhm signing fees relax over there and laugh at us??

  • Guys cool down
If u ban Pakistanis Den ban everything which attached 2 Pakistan ex: Don’t listen ATIF ASLAM songs coz he is Pakistani….
    Get a life ……

  • What nana said is the right thing that nation comes first, and what i think is government has done right to do to stop terrorism. india has nothing against pakistani people. It is there government who supports terrorism.

  • Nana patekar dialog ” mein shivajirao bhosle Maratha Marta hai Marta hai ” .

Rajkumar dialog for paki ” I will kill you, and will kill you for sure … but that gun will be mine, the bullet will be mine and the time will be mine ” .
