Amol eliminated completely

Aamir and Amol started having serious differences of opinion towards the end of first schedule of Taare Zameen Par. Amol’s name is being eliminated completely and the entire cast and crew insist that Aamir Khan has been the directer from day one.

Everyone connected with the snag-ridden Aamir Khan production Taare Zameen Par seems to have acquired collective amnesia. The entire cast and crew insist that Aamir Khan has been the film’s director from day one.

Tisca Arora, for instance, who has landed herself a plum role in Aamir Khan’s Taare Zameen Par insists that it was always Aamir Khan who was the director of the film. (Incidentally, Tisca is the girl who made her debut with Ajay Devgan in Platform and was recently a knock-out as the most off-key singer ever on the music contest Fame Gurukul).

Tisca describes the experience of being directed by Aamir as an eye-opener. “He’s a wonderful human being and great person to work with. Taare Zameen Par belongs to the genre of Rang De Basanti and Swades.”

Remind her of the fact that Amol Gupte was earlier directing Taare Zameen Par, and Tisca goes blank. “As far as I’m concerned, Aamir was always directing Taare Zameen Par,” she says.

And then quickly moves on to her favourite topic – her role. “There are only four principal characters in the film, and I am one of them. I play the boy Darsheel Safary’s mother,” says Tisca.

However, we do know about the huge talent search that was organised for the role, that is being played by Darsheel. And the auditions for the role was done by none other than Amol Gupte. In fact, it was Gupte who had then finalised this character.

Things were fine for a while. However, towards the end of the first schedule of the film, the time when they were shooting at New Era school in Panchgani, Aamir and Amol started having serious differences of opinion.

The film had been offered to Amol Gupte in the first place as Aamir has known Gupte right from the time when the actor was acting in Ketan Mehta’s Holi, where Amol was one of Mehta’s assistants. The story was conceptualised by Amol. It’s the story of the friendship between a father and his son who suffers from dyslexia. The script has been written by Amol.

Aamir had loved the subject and not only agreed to act in the film but also agreed to produce it. Amol was the director initially. However things did not go according to Amol’s plan, and later Aamir took over as the director. Now we hear Amol’s name is being obliterated completely?
