Akshay Kumar praises Shahid Kapoor’s dancing skills

Bollywood heroes are expected to be all rounders – they have to look good on-screen, romance, fight, perform stunts, dance and sometimes even sing!

The most successful of actors excel in every department, which is why they have survived in the industry for decades. One actor who does it all is Akshay Kumar, but the actor has said that he doesn’t consider himself to be a dancer.

“My dancing is more like aerobics. I do more aerobics than dancing. I wouldn’t call myself a dancer. Shahid is a dancer. I think Shahid is a better dancer than most actors, including me”

Akshay goes on to add that Shahid has not only learnt the art of dancing, but also pushes himself to do better.

“He (Shahid) looks like someone who has learnt dancing, and he knows what he is doing when he is dancing. You can tell that his feet have rhythm and his body knows where it is going and what he is doing. And if you watch his films, you will find that the way he danced earlier is different from what he is doing now. It is not the same steps or dance form.”

“When you see Shahid dancing, you can see that it looks like he is not doing stuff he is comfortable with, or that he must be used to doing. He pushes himself and lets his choreographers lead him wherever they want to take him. He is a proper dancer who has learnt the art from a very young age and knows his stuff. As in, he can actually tell the difference between samba or salsa.”

When a journalist asked Akshay about his style, the superstar said “Me? I am doing the same thing I was doing a decade ago.”

In an industry as insecure as Bollywood, it’s refreshing to see actors praise their contemporaries. Even though Akshay has arguably the best comic timing amongst actors and also performs his stunts brilliantly, it has been a while since we heard any other actor praise him. Most actors are full of themselves, Akshay isn’t!
