Airlift has been declared tax free by the Uttar Pradesh government, headed by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. The film, directed Raja Menon, features Akshay Kumar and Nimrat Kaur in the lead.
Airlift is based on a real-life story of the World’s biggest mass evacuation of Indians during the Iraq-Kuwait war in 1990.
The story of the film is from the point of view of Akshay’s character (Ranjit Katyal) who helped Indians get airlifted to safety from Kuwait.
Airlift released in theatres last weekend and has collected Rs 72.5 crore in 5 days at the domestic box office.

movies ke tax se govt ko bohot munafa hote hai jise woh aam aadmi ki bahali ke kaam mei laga sakte hai…ek movie ko tax free karna khali distributors ko munafa dena hota hai…desh bhakti nahi hota…
AIRLIFT is awesome but making a movie tax free is a non sensial thing.

@Chain smoker: You are right to some extent but not every govt. uses the money given by the public as tax in the right way.
So if a film is there,which people should watch in no.,I don’t think there’s any problem in making it tax free,so that people can watch it at relatively lower price.And this action is more visible to the aam aadmi instead of doing bhalai with their tax money.

Now that its certain that airlift will be a big boxoffice hit (might even go on to become a blockbuster) , a thought tickles in my mind, Why baby and special 26 underperformed at b.o and that is because both of them were as gud as airlift
Now this is because akshay started this no nonsense thriller genre in bollywood with special 26 gained confidence of his fans , many saw that movie on t.v or on their lappy and every1 appreciated it
Again he came with baby on republic day weekend again a no nonsense thriller
(note that akshay b/w these two classics made some really bad movies)
again baby was appreciated but it underperformed at b.o.
But gud part was it became clear that if akshay releases a movie on republic day , if u r his fan or not its better u don’t miss it
This tym he came with airlift and every1 know what happened a genre which had no audience 2 years back has given a classic as well as blockbuster to industry
after releasing these movies today akshay has got audience confidence and The thing is if u shuffle release date of these three movies , for eg if instead of airlift , if it would hav been baby or special 26 then also those would have been blockbuster
Akshay has officialy not only started a new genre in india but has also got audience for it.
he deserves loads of credit for his vision and talent and also risk he took

@Stark You’re right man…And Rustom will be epic…I know the plot and it’s on a real life incident…Won’t tell anyone until they officially declare…But in supporting casts there are Illiana D’cruz and Esha Gupta…And trust me it’ll be the 2nd masterpiece of 2016…BTW SRK’s FAN could also become the 2nd masterpiece of this year…If director don’t spoil it like Billu…

I am from Bhuj / Kutch( white rann(white desert) Gujarat).
This is the place where earthquake hit in 26th January 2001 and over 50,000/- people died over here.
In Bhuj so many movie shooted like Hum Dul De Chuke Sanam ( Bhuj was a main reason where Salman and Aishwarya get in to love with each other, refujee, Lagan, Ram Leela, and many more but last Mohenjo Daro.
We feel proude to lives in Bhuj Kutch.
But Akshay didn’t came for any movie hence I also request to Akki sir to come Bhuj for movie shut.
So we also need tax free in Gujarat.
And last request to Indicine , please update the latest rates of entertainment tax and what is it’s rules and regulations .?
