Akshay Kumar’s Airlift continued to dominate at multiplexes in its 2nd weekend at the box office. The film was clearly the first choice for moviegoers, inspite of the fact that R. Madhavan’s Saala Khadoos and Sunny Leone’s Mastizaade released in theatres this weekend.
Airlift has collected Rs 6.5 crore on its 9th day to take its total to Rs 94.5 crore. On Sunday, Airlift will become Akshay’s 4th film in the 100 crore club and his first since ‘Holiday: A Solider Is Never Off Duty’ which released about 20 months ago.
The growth on 2nd Saturday (45%) is better than 1st Saturday (40%), which goes to show that the film is carrying excellent word-of-mouth at city multiplexes.
The film is now looking at lifetime business of somewhere around the 125 – 130 crore mark. Whether it can go on to beat Akshay’s highest grosser Rowdy Rathore, is something that remains to be seen.

@Sky: The movie clearly states that it is inspired by “True events” and not the factual representation.There were 2 men instead of one Ranjit Katyal and the makers have altered to create it more dramatic.Same was the case with Bajirao Mastani,the events shown were not supposed to be 100% correct.There have been many newspaper articles showing that there were 2 businessmen who did such a job,the paper cuttings are there at the end of the film too.

@Babaji I have no objection of making movie fictional while insuring true incident but when you not able to give proper picture it feel bad. The role of Indian embassy in Kuwait and Indian government shown in negative way. In the movie the character Sanjeev kohli who shown as doing along battle from India to help Ranjeet katyal is giving wrong picture. If you see movie clearly you think that Indian government hardly cared for evacuation which can’t be correct as this kind of evacuation can’t be possible without role of external affair ministry and their workers. That’s hurt me the most and the refuse camp also was fictional completely. Nevertheless Airlift indeed a great film but it never justified the actual role of Indian government that why Diplomats and external affair ministry given their statement for giving untrue picture of them.
Regarding Bajirao Mastani it was clearly a fictional film which was said by many times by SLB and they never promoted it as close to reality and it was based from a book written by some former writer on Bajirao. What happen during those time, right or wrong and what shown is debatable but Airlift deals about India and showing less or no role in evacuation for that time from Indian government gives wrong information.
That’s why I said Airlift is a great cinema based on true event which is far from reality.
