Akshay Kumar’s Airlift continued to dominate at multiplexes in its 2nd weekend at the box office. The film was clearly the first choice for moviegoers, inspite of the fact that R. Madhavan’s Saala Khadoos and Sunny Leone’s Mastizaade released in theatres this weekend.
Airlift has collected Rs 6.5 crore on its 9th day to take its total to Rs 94.5 crore. On Sunday, Airlift will become Akshay’s 4th film in the 100 crore club and his first since ‘Holiday: A Solider Is Never Off Duty’ which released about 20 months ago.
The growth on 2nd Saturday (45%) is better than 1st Saturday (40%), which goes to show that the film is carrying excellent word-of-mouth at city multiplexes.
The film is now looking at lifetime business of somewhere around the 125 – 130 crore mark. Whether it can go on to beat Akshay’s highest grosser Rowdy Rathore, is something that remains to be seen.

If Airlift was starring any Khan or Hrithik, it would have crossed at least 200 crore in India.
It is very sad that super super strong word of mouth of Akshay kumar movies earn close to only 125 crore!!. But the Khan average movie does 150crore… Best example is Dilwale, which was having worst word of mouth and hate campaign to bring down the badshah of bollywood!!!. Akshay needs to grow up like the mighty khans!!!…

Correction I don’t think it can beat niche with mahaclash BM becaz BM got around120 cr in 10 days while Akshay is still struggling to cross 10 days with 100 cr. Had these3 young men Ranbir Varun Ranveer not been acting films Akshay would has been the number 6 fastest actor to reach 100 crore but he has to settle wit number 9 actor to reach 100 crorer quicker . Hopefully houseful 3 can allow him to cross these young boys record. Come on lets pray for him to achieve that with houseful 3 ???

As being akshay fan, I wud like to say that #airlift is strictly average movie. Starting part is heart taking. In middle movie is very slow u feel like bored. At ending movie again takes pace but not to the climax level.I felt movie shud b little more thrilling.

@The phenom: Rowdy rathore was just loved by masses,it kept running in single screen cinemas for more than a month,enjoys All time blockbuster status in bihar.Even the multiplexes did well.
Airlift to be honest is’nt that entertaining to give it a repeat watch even for the multiplex audience,forget masses.
When I watched the movie, I though the movie is very close to reality and I got thrilled with the movie, but after reading statement of external ministry and other people who mentioning that there were no character like Ranjit Katyal there and no camp was associated for Indians, specially in the film the way government role was projected as lndian govt were not having any intention to support Indians living there buy the reality is different. I wish Akki and makers should reaserched well to make the facts close to reality rather than far from reality. Airlift is definitely a brilliant movie but not its only a movie not movie project reality. Still Congo to Airlift team at least they able to knew people about 1990 evacuation plan. Regarding lifetime its looking that Airlift will cross Agneepath and settle around 122-123cr. Superhit and Akshay 4 100 cr film. House full 3 will be 5th film of him to 100cr and possibly his career highest grosser as houseful 1 & house full 2 ended being Akshay career highest grosser when they released.
for all those taking about AIRLIFT collection reaching 200 crores if it would star Khans or Hrithink. First ask them to take risks by working in such niche and risky projects without adding commercial elements. Secondly by coming only on Eid Diwali Christmas after gaps of min 12 months.. it’s a cakewalk to to make huge collections so please mind it. Also If you ever get a chance to talk to someone from the industry just ask then about Akshay. You will only hear good about him from them I bet.
