Airlift has done the unthinkable. The Akshay Kumar starrer has surpassed its Sunday business by collecting Rs 17.8 crore on the Republic Day holiday, taking its 5-day total to Rs 72.52 crore.
The collections of Airlift is now more than the combined business of the other two releases of 2016 (Wazir – 40 crore and Kya Kool Hai Hum 3 currently at 26.75 crore).
Airlift is certain to cross the 85 crore mark in its first week and could get close to 90 crore net business - which would be more than the lifetime collections of Akshay’s 2015 films like Gabbar Is Back, Brothers and Singh Is Bling.
Mastizaade is the only release next week and that film is targeted at the single-screen audience, much like Kya Kool Hai Hum 3 this week. Airlift will remain unaffected at multiplexes, what with some exhibitors already planning to increase the shows of the film in Week 2.
The word-of-mouth is phenomenal in cities, with a section of the trade calling it the best received Akshay Kumar film of all time.
The lifetime business could go anywhere from here – 100 crore business is a certainty and Airlift is more than likely to be Akshay’s highest grosser ever (beating the long standing Rs 133 crore total of Rowdy Rathore). It also has a chance to surpass the 150 crore mark (keep an eye on the comparison with Tanu Weds Manu Returns) and also topple the lifetime business of Shah Rukh Khan’s Christmas release ‘Dilwale’.
More importantly, the month of January hasn’t been great for the industry over the years. But Akshay is now making the Republic Day weekend his own. Airlift will be the all-time biggest grosser of the month, beating the lifetime total of Agneepath (122 crore) and Jai Ho (112 crore).

Some saying srk to pack bags. Its good news for srk also. Content +stardom will make movie wonder. With srk in fan 65 crore in 3 days gurantee, rest on content. Watched the movie yesterday have to accept it is one of the finest movies to have released in recent times.Couldn’t control my emotions during the climax scene.Never for a moment did I feel bored or uninterested.Many critics have criticised the placing of songs but none of the songs seems forced(except dil de di maybe). Akshay has redeemed himself and has given the best performance of his career.It is commendable on his part to be part of a movie which lacks commercial value.It would be a shame if we consider akshay only to be an entertainer anymore.He has grown immensely in the past few years and his choices has been even more incredible
Airlift is making amends for Baby and Special 26.Both deserved a blockbuster status but because of the genre couldn’t collect much.
I am sure it will be remembered as a cult classic in the coming years and another 8+ Imdb rated movie for Akki
It’s surprising to see RR to have sustained so well in the weekdays.135 crs in 2012 with a non holiday release is phenomenal

The 5th day collections are outstanding . Any movie beating the first day collections on 5th or 6th day is a huge positive sign . I am really happy for Akshay. He is doing one brilliant movie per year since 2012 . OMG, S26, Holiday, Baby and GIB all were much better movies than RR . But now Airlift is doing rock solid business and is galloping towards a mammoth total . Holiday, Baby, GIB and now Airlift I honestly feel he is the modern version of Manoj Kumar . Take A Bow !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is historic ! As I always said Akki is equal if not greater than khans … Media never gave Akki his due … What the mainstream media did not do, social media did :) after all you can’t do much – few people might hate but in general word of mouth is so so good that airlift is unstoppable… He can repeat the 6 hits in a row thing again … With airlift he silenced sll haters who were trying to speculate end of akshay … He should always go for 1 such film every year !!!
In the climax, when the flag gets hoisted with the beautiful song in the background.. tears rolled down my cheeks. If a movie does that to you, then I believe its truly a beautiful movie..
Today is the real test..
if it will fall 50% short then to surpass 4year old record Agneepath (122 crore) will be tough.

Superb Fantastic Collections in just 5 days, now i am sure that it will be cross 122 crore mark of agneepath guaranteed but about 150 crore i can not think too early i am waiting for 2nd week performance of Airlift then i’ll think about 150 crore truly Airlift deserves more than 150 crore.

In coming years, word of mouth will be very important… That’s good in one way as some good directors can aim a clash with a superstar… Akki no doubt s big star but this genre doing well is because of social media and word of mouth
This gives a confidence to people like Varun Ajay Ranveer Ranbir shahid etc to go for a clash maybe they lose on opening weekend where likes of Salman Akki Hrithik SRK tend to gain but from day 4 you can’t stop retweets and Facebook shares … If fan will have good content fan will cross dilwale !! Sultan will take a mammoth opening as Salman is a much bigger star at present but raees still has a chance due to content
