Akshay Kumar’s Airlift has shown phenomenal growth on Day 2 at the domestic box office. Like we reported in our box office report yesterday, the morning shows on Saturday were up by around 10% and the upward trend continued through the day.
Cities are performing very well and even mass centres performed better on Saturday as compared to Friday. The word-of-mouth is excellent, which should help the film take advantage of two holidays – one on Sunday and other for Republic Day on Tuesday.
Sunday Update: As expected, morning shows on Sunday are better than both Friday and Saturday. A film like Baby last year, showed growth of 40% on Sunday. Airlift is performing at a higher level, so growth of around 20% or more is a possibility. The film is now looking at weekend business of 43-44 crore and Monday should hold well too because Tuesday is national holiday.

@Flop roshan – Hrithik has 3 highest grossing movies of the year. Dhoom 2, Jodha Akbar, Bang Bang, ZNMD, Agneepath were not his dad’s movies. Were they ? While SRK flopped as Asoka when he tried that genre, HR was successful as Akbar. While Ra.one became flopbuster and butt of everyone’s jokes HR made a successful superhero franchise…Even as a debutant, his movie did better than srk’s…
I don’t deny Srk’s pull overseas but so is Hrithik’s…srk is going down and his fan following in india is at all time low…less then 150 in india during xmas is pathetic…once you show signs of weakness in india, overseas can’t save you as india distributors suffer losses and movie verdicts are always based on that…don’t mask behind those overseas numbers !!!
If airlift holds up well…Then,It can be Akshay Kumar highest grosser beating Rowdy Rathore(139cr)…

About crowdpull in overseas Hrithik is nowhere close to King Khan, proof= Krrish 3 couldnt cross 10 milion in overseas inspite of brand name.

Airlift is a good movie I’m happy for akki it will be the first success of the year. Akki has housefull 3 and rustom shahrukh has fan raees and gauri shindes next ive got the feeling 2016 will be a repeat of 2007 where Shahrukh and akki will standout
@Flop roshan – As I said indian distributors lost money with dilwale…overseas are important but we can never neglect domestic collections…dilwale has caused many distributors to go bankrupt in india…accept the truth and move on…

akshay is giving memorable performances and doing something very different..is a risk taker…hrithik has overtaken srk now…till now both were equal…only salman at present is ahead of him as he is going through the best time of his career…srk will decline – dilwale was a signal…fan will still make profits but with raees he is done and dusted….it is domestic collections that will always decide star status…overseas is needed but primary market will always be india…if airlift crosses dilwale with such a subject and limited release with a content not appealing to single screens, srk should be worried…

however keeping my hatred aside, i personally want airlift to do well in long run. I just watched the last night show, and loved it from every core. it’s a must watch film for everyone who loves the country.

Airlift had good growth on Sunday with collections set to be around 16.75 crore nett. The 15-20% growth may not be huge but for this type of film but it is good as a huge chunk of business is coming from city multiplexes and these are weak on Sunday morning and evening so there is a limit to how far they can grow on Sunday. The mass markets have done better on Sunday and are at decent levels after two days of low collections.
The weekend will be 42 crore nett plus which is a good weekend for the film and more importantly it has got there for a 11 crore start with very strong uptrend on Saturday.
The trend is good and Monday will be further boosted by evening collections at city multiplexes as next day is a holiday and its city multiplexes where the bulk of the business is so the film is almost certain to have two days of good collections. The film has chances to challenge Akshay Kumar’s highest first week collection which was Rowdy Rathore (75 crore) but it will be Wednesday that is crucial for that.
The movie is all set to cross rr week1 and if they ask me it shall cross its lyftym as well..movie deserves all the success which it is getting..i just think that the movie can do another twmr if it holds well from wednesday onwards..cheers akkians party tym..
