Airlift has done well on its opening day at the box office, collecting Rs 12.35 crore on Day 1. The collections are on-par (probably a little above) of what was expected out of the film prior to release.
The word-of-mouth is excellent. Exhibitors inform that the audience has responded positively to the film and the occupancy grew quite significantly towards the end of the day yesterday.
On Saturday morning, Airlift has recorded higher occupancy as compared to Friday, especially at multiplexes in cities. Centres in Mumbai city were about 10% above yesterday. Other centres in the NCR region and Bangalore have also held on strongly today.
The fate of Airlift is dependent on how well it trends over the course of the weekend. Last year, Baby picked up by around 20% on Saturday. Airlift would have to show similar growth if it has to record a 42-43 crore weekend.

Airlift was a difficult film to predict because word-of-mouth for such films can come into effect pretty quickly at multiplexes.

Megastar aamir Kahn is the most consistent megastar. No one can ever match his consistency. Lallu’s movies are hits because of masala genre’s popularity and successful south remakes. If that none actor was in talaash then it would have been another marigold. Also what happened to jai ho? It couldn’t get even a hit verdict despite having remake factor and masala genre. Aamir has guts to do out of the box movies and make them hits. Talaash was a superhit in overseas and hit in India. Your lallu is nothing in front of megastar aamir khan.

Half of his career he was the 3rd Khan… Post Hrithik he was not even in top 3… In fact entire 90s Aamir gave so many flops… In fact later on by manipulation he changed verdict of lagaun too which at best was an average grosser…Everyone knows how gadaar showed Aamir his place … He even uses Salmans friendship for his benefit
@paras Sharma – good people are watching Aamirs movies in China … In India he is not considered to be very bankable … Heard few of his movies did great business but most movies never recovered money … Was he the same actor who desperately wanted an award and when not given was so upset that was never seen again ? Hrithik launched in 2000 by 2005 was a superstar when he delivered d2 and kmg (never looked back after that and just had 1 slump after mega success of knph)…while aamir after 12 years was giving disasters like mela, mann…

Completely agree with you bro @hr rules if only raw fan following is considered i guess its gotta be akki,hr,salman,sharuk…even i hate sharuk and upyo some extent salman as well but all 4 deserve a lot of respect for what they r..they do have some crazh fan following and as far as aamir is concerned i guess even ajay and upyo some extent rsnbir has a better fan following than him and dven sunnh deol can match him..in the interiors even today..like bihar,up,north,and central india..he is just a coward never takes those risks and yesh he was and he is nothing w/o raju hirani and a franchise 3i definitely gave him a new lease of life..even sanju baba will give a huge opening with munnabhai3 maybe the biggest due to raju and sequel and even a bit of his star power which i definitely think is above aamir..

Airlift had good growth on Sunday with collections set to be around 16.75 crore nett. The 15-20% growth may not be huge but for this type of film but it is good as a huge chunk of business is coming from city multiplexes and these are weak on Sunday morning and evening so there is a limit to how far they can grow on Sunday. The mass markets have done better on Sunday and are at decent levels after two days of low collections.
The weekend will be 42 crore nett plus which is a good weekend for the film and more importantly it has got there for a 11 crore start with very strong uptrend on Saturday.
The trend is good and Monday will be further boosted by evening collections at city multiplexes as next day is a holiday and its city multiplexes where the bulk of the business is so the film is almost certain to have two days of good collections. The film has chances to challenge Akshay Kumar’s highest first week collection which was Rowdy Rathore (75 crore) but it will be Wednesday that is crucial for that.
The movie is all set to cross rr week1 and if they ask me it shall cross its lyftym as well..movie deserves all the success which it is getting..i just think that the movie can do another twmr if it holds well from wednesday onwards..cheers akkians party tym..
