Abhishek Bachchan talks about his first hit, Dhoom, completing 10 years

Exactly 10 years ago on this day, Abhishek Bachchan delivered the first hit of his career. His first 14 films – Refugee, Dhai Akshar Prem Ke, Tera Jadoo Chal Gaya, Bas Itna Sa Khwaab Hai, Haan Maine Bhi Pyaar Kiya, Shararat, Om Jai Jagadish, Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost, Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon, Kuch Naa Kaho, Zameen, LOC Kargil, Run and Yuva – all sank without a trace at the box office.

While Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon opened well and went on to be a decent grosser, Yuva had won him critical acclaim and also ‘Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor’. But it was Dhoom (2004), his first hit after nearly 5 years in the industry, that proved to be a turning point in his career.  It was after Dhoom that he delivered solid successes like Bunty Aur Babli, Sarkar and Bluffmaster.

With Dhoom turning 10, Abhishek tweeted “10yrs ago my life changed! #10yrsofDhoom thank u all 4 the constant love and support. Uday Chopra, John Abraham, Esha Deol, Sanjay Gadhvi”

Directed by Sanjay Gadhvi and produced by Aditya Chopra under the famed Yash Raj Films banner, “Dhoom” also stars Uday Chopra, John Abraham, Esha Deol and Rimi Sen.

Abhishek plays a no-nonsense police officer, who cracks a case involving a motorbike gang that loots banks. John plays the leader of the gang, and Uday features as Abhishek’s sidekick in the movie.

The sequel to ‘Dhoom’, ‘Dhoom 2: Back in Action’ released in 2006, with Hrithik Roshan playing the antagonist. The third part, which released last year, saw Aamir Khan in the villain’s role.

  • In india the only thing is work that is recommandation and abhishek prove it becoz of his father he gave so many films even emran hasmi more talented than compare to him . His wife is more popular

  • Becoz of abhi dhoom3 can’t do 300cr. And same hny also don’t do same people never want to see him biggest flop star of the indian cinema

  • @sameer shame on u for comparing a versatile and successful actor like abhisek with b grade actor emmy!tell ur emmy to first pull of a role like guru or dostana or yuva

  • Hahaha @arjun kapoor,you sometimes do very good comedy…
I know Abhishek is an improved actor but he will never be considered a Successful actor…bcoz he does’nt have much success as solo lead..
Emraan is a much better actor!

  • @pjp
IMDB ratings can’t tell you how much the film has been loved…
Without any doubt DHOOM brand is much bigger than DON brand and most srk fans should agree with me…
    Dhoom 2:81crs (2006)
    Don:52crs (2006)
    Don 2:107crs (2011)
    Dhoom 3:282crs (2013)

That should be enough for you i guess…

Don 2 did just 26crs more than D2 even after 5 yrs…while D3 did almost 175crs more than Don2 just after 2 years!!!

  • Abhishek Bacchan is very well behaved and well spoken. As AB’s son, he is very down to earth. But he is very laidback and lazy and that come to the screen. 14 years in bollywood but could not make a fan base. Now he is almost 40, so age is not in his side, can’t pull a solo release in box office.Anyhow, he will get movies coz in bollywood personal relationship works big time but never become a boxoffice force or a big star.

One of my friend is saying that he is new age Raj Babbar or vinod mehra.

  • 10 yr anniversary of Dhoom and no Hrithik…

Oh dear oh god there will be uproar in Jaaduland at this insult to Hrithiks HUGE contribution to the Dhoom brand…

  • @nipun 6:49am

You showing how much of a bigger baby you are by worrying about your likes count- you trying to be more popular than ‘baby nipun’ and ‘nipun junior’….!

So sad how you waste time rechecking the page to see if you got another like or not… Loser

  • @indicine

Really was ‘nipuns’ request so important that you had to take a min out of your very busy schedule to respond to him when other users including myself are asking about why theres a delay in posting our comments…?

  • A thullu thinks Udays and Abhisheks contribution was important in first two films- this is true- character actors contribution can be huge- same was true of the super contributions of Anupam Kher and Amrish Puri in making DDLJ the classic it is today…!

However in the third film they were rightly sidelined to make way for not one great performance but two from Aamir Khan…!

Adi and Victor realised that a double dose of Aamir will be historic n record breaking n they were spot on… Kudos gents

  • @pjp

Its ture what the thullu says…

Everytime he bashes Dhoom 3 he himself gets BASHED senseless hence it explains why he remembers bashing Dhoom 3 about 20 times due to the subsequent bashings he takes in return…,!

  • @thullu I think u r a psycho.u praised d3 twice at d start of the article and nw u r saying u didn’t praise!

  • Even though I am neither fan of John or hrithik I would say that dhoom and dhoom 2 were better in terms of action, fun and songs wise. But content wise and success wise dhoom 3 is Farr ahead.

  • Thanks friends for wishing me and making my B’day special. .
huh! I completed my 19th year! I cann’t believe it. People still find me childish. ! ! — feeling happy.

  • @Navin
    Few days ago
Someone rightly said that 8/10 of ur comments are senseless and u r proving it on each article
Ur points are not related to the topics 8/10 1st times

  • Dhoom 1, by far the best of all. It has the highest viewing than later two parts.

It saved Abhi’s career and still makes Indians aware that Uday Chopra exists.

Abhishek should have tried something different than aping his dad when he entered cinema initially. People just started to ignore him after that and it has been a long road for him.

But then he is still around, thanks to his Pa, Ba, Biwi and ofcourse Dhoom and Idea cellular company.

Otherwise i feel he is a cool guy, and to carry the burden of being Big B’s son is too huge for him or anyone for that matter to handle.

    Hope he saves HNY. lol.
