The sequel to Mahesh Bhatt’s 1990 blockbuster Aashiqui, has opened well at the box office on Friday. The opening was good in circuits like Mumbai, East Punjab, UP and Rajasthan. The All-India average occupancy for the morning shows was around 40%, matinee (noon) shows were running at 45-50%.
While Aashiqui 2 is the first choice at mass-centres, the film was competing against a major Hollywood action release ‘Iron Man 3’ which has opened to a record-breaking response at Urban centres.
Produced by T-Series and Vishesh Films, Aashiqui 2 has been made on a budget of 11-12 crore (including P&A). The film is likely to collect around 3.5-4 crore on it’s opening day, which is excellent for a film without stars.
