Aamir Khan Week: PK completes one year

It was on this day, exactly a year ago, that Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani reunited to give the industry its highest grosser of all time. The controversial film was a brave take on religion and godmen. Sentiments were hurt, but controversies and negative publicity ended up giving the business of the film a huge boost.

There will be no Aamir Khan this year, and the actor who made the Christmas weekend his own with films like 3 Idiots, Taare Zameen Par, Ghajini and Dhoom 3, will be missed.

‘Aamir Khan Week’ was trending on Twitter throughout the day. Check out tweets of fans and also pick his best film during the ‘Aamir Khan Week’. You can pick two!

  • Yay! 2 back-to-back movies in a span of 7 hours. Quite busy day :D
And finally, here is my “experience” of watching Dilwale and Bajirao Mastani.
Before I proceed with this review, I would like to make it clear that I always try to be unbiased in my “Experience” specific comments and PRDP review was a best example for the same or else all know, that I am a known Salman hater. So here too, I will try to be unbiased and if I say something against or favoring Dileale and Bajirao , it should be taken sportingly . Also, this is going to be a bit long , hence those, who are not habitual of long and boring comments, may skip it from here on.

    My Dilwale “Experience” :

Mine was FDFS starting at 09:00 am and there was around 75-80% of occupancy in that show which is pretty good considering it was an early morning show and Friday was a working day.

Plot : Dilwale is a story of Love, which revolves around Raj (SRK)- Meera (Kajol) and Veer (Varun) – Ishita (Kriti). There are many twist and turns in the story and there will be lots of hurdles before these two couples finally achieve their love interests. For further details, please head towards nearest theatre .

Dilwale is a typical Bollywood movie which provides a complete package of Romance, Drama, Action, Comedy everything under one frame. It’s a regular story and there is nothing new in it to call it a “trendsetter”. It has many hilarious scenes which will make you laugh out loud. At eh same time, it has few gigantic actions packed scenes which will give you goosebumps .Few scenes are over dramatic and reminds you about the movies of 90s. Specially, the climax scene, when goons beat Varun red and blue and then Kajol shouts her throat out “Kaaaaaliiiiiii……”. Though that was a climax scene, but it brought an smile on my face seeing a 90s types scene in 2015.

Performance : SRK is superb as Raj. He has a bit of romantic side in flash back, but most of the time he looked intense and he has nailed it completely. Flashback part totally belongs to SRK-Kajol and trust me, they have not acted, but they have lived their roles. There is a reason, why people call this pair as the most charismatic pair of all time. The way they exchange glances, stare at each other, pass the smiles, it not only shows the special bonding between these two, but it also shows how their personal understanding has become bigger and better with every passing movie. For me, the best frame of SRK was that scene, where SRK’s minions come and say , “We have found them (those who attacked Varun)”. Just see , the look which SRK gives and the way he walks, once he gets this news. Theatre was echoed with whistles and applauds. Kajol too, did a fair job with both positive and negative side of her character. Kriti didn’t have much too do, but whatever was there in her part, she tried to deliver her best. Coming to Varun, no doubt he is the rising superstar and soon, he will achieve the meg stardom, but honestly speaking ,he has over acted in few scenes. The biggest example is, check the scene when Mukesh Tiwari tells a fake sotry about SRK’s past to Varun and when Varun comes and calls SRK as “Ramlal”. That scene looked too artificial because of Varun’s over acting.
After SRK, if there are show stealers, then they are side artists. Varn, Boman, Johny, Sanjay Mishra , all did a great job. But if I have to chose one among these all, I will go with Sanjay Mishra. He was damn hilarious and all his scenes made audiences burst into laughter.

Music : Dilwale Album is arguably the best album of 2015. Preetam has done justice not only with songs, but also with background score. Every time, when the tuning of “Janam Janam” echoes, it takes you in an entirely different world. The rolling credit song “Tukur Tukur” was perfect at its place and its ends the movie with an energetic note.

Rating : NA (conclude it from my experience).

Conclusion : Dilwale is a typical Rohit Shetty movie. Yes, that’s right. So those, who were claiming it to have many more things into kitty are wrong. It promises you a throughout entertainment in Rohit Shetty Style. So if you love light hearted comedy , then go for Dilwale. It won’t make you bore even for a second. That’s my promise. But if you look for logic and some sincere plots in a movie (or if you are a Raju Hirani/ Asutosh Gowarikar fan), then Dilwale is not for you. Please stay away from it. Dilwale is a perfect one time watch, but it is not something which you will remember for years. Just enjoy it for 2.5 hours and once you are out from theatre, then forget it.
If you ask me to define it in one sentence , “A perfect one time watch but won’t be remembered once it out from theatres like CDI,PK, BB did”.

  • Whenever I watch PK on my laptop now,I watch it till the first half and then close it.It was really good till there not so good after that.

  • My Bajirao “Experience” :

Came out from theatre at 11:40 am. Reached the ticket counter at 11:45 am to get the tickets for Bajirao 12:00 pm show (as I didn’t book it in advance). Was worried if I will get one, but to my surprise, I got second last row from back (just 15 minutes from the beginning of movie). This shows the occupancy level of BM. 12:00 pm show of Bajirao was having 35-40% occupancy.

Plot : Bajirao Mastani is a story of Maratha warrior “Peshwa Bajirao” who fallen in love with a princess (of Bundelkhand) called “Msatani. How their own society goes against their love story, Bhansali tried to portray the same on big screen.

Bhansali is no doubt , one of the biggest directors when it comes to make grand movies. And Bajirao is another installment of the same. When movie started, I was in awe for first twenty minutes and I thought I am going to watch one of the best movie of recent times. The way, Ranveer breaks the target showing his Shastra Gyan and the way he speaks about his strategies to conquer Delhi (showing his Shaastra Gyan gives goosebumps). In fact , when Deepika barges into Ranveer’s mansion for help and when Ranveer offers a support to her and fights on the behalf of Bundelkhand, each frame looked a masterpiece . But sooner, all my excitement went into vein because of the slow pace of movie. “Mohe Rang do Laal” , what was the need of this boring song at that place? Other songs, too, were misplaced making the movie slow. Fact is, Bhasnali and Team had promoted it as a “Love story of a warrior”, but trust me, the love story was proven to be the weakest part of this movie. The time, this love story enters into the movie, it becomes quite slow and boring. Thanks to last 20 minutes, which saved it from being a completely boring movie like PRDP. First and last 20 minutes of Bajirao are masterpiece and the heart of the movie. Whereas you won’t find much in between.

Performance : They have overrated Deepika. For me, real show stealer was Priyanka. The emotional scenes, innocent scenes , all she has done superbly amazing. In fact, her steps are far better than Deepika in Pinga song. Another shocking surprise for me was Ranveer singh. Sorry Ranveer fans (if there are any), I kept on calling him as monkey (as he left such impression on my mind with his past movies), but he has done a superb job in Bajirao. Just see the scenes , when he is surrounded by enemies (in Bundelkhand war). His body language looked like a real warrior. Also, at the end, when he starts getting nightmares inside the sea, there, his performance is splendid.

Music : Music of BM is strictly average . Only one song is something you can call “good” and that is title track itself.

Rating : NA (Conclude from my experience) .

Conclusion : If you are a fan of Ranveer singh/Deepika Padukone/Priyanka Chopra, please go for it. If you love watching historical recreations, hurry up and book your tickets. But if you are expecting a masterpiece (as claimed by the makers) , then stay away from it. Forget Jodha Akbar and Bahubali, it is not even close to Ram-Leela both in intensity, plot and story . I don’t know how deepika made such claim, that you will be in awe with this movie. Bajirao is one of the most anticipated movie of the year (in terms of content) but unfortunately it doesn’t promise the same i.e. content. A disappointment from Bhansali.

  • For me, both Dilwale and Bajirao have missed the golden opportunity.

Dilwale had a chance to crush BM like what OSO did with Sawariyaa. But unfortunately, Dilwale doesn’t have repeat values like OSO , neither BM is as weak as Sawariyaa.
On the other hand, Bajirao had a chance to emerge as a big hit against Dilwale , provided by a rich content. But that also, seems to be impossible now as BM is set to wrap up within 100 cr.

In this whole story, Bhansali and Eros have been proven as the biggest fools. Man, you are taking on a Rohit Shetty entertainer , comprising a Team of stars, who hardly fail on Box-Office. You should have had something very strong to provide a neck-to-neck competition. But what was the result? You came with a movie which has mesmerizing visuals but a weak plot.
Now, I got a feeling that Bajirao would have got even a solo release, it wouldn’t have recovered its cost. I am not sure what make them to be super confident. At least, BM synopsis never gives that confidence.
For me, Dilwale is MUCH BETTER than Bajirao Mastani. Not because I am a fan of SRK or Dilwale is a masterpiece, but because Dilwale does what it claims ( i.e. entertains me and other audiences). On the other hand, there is a slow pace movie, which claims to be a masterpiece but runs based on stunning visuals and expensive costumes, without any substance.

  • PK is still highest grossing movie of all time with 735cr WW
lallu BB jitni achi film laa kr bhi PK ka record nahi tod paya

  • I have to say Aamir and Salman are much bigger stars than Shahrukh
Both of their solo movies crossed 300 crore ( PK and BB)
while Srk’s multistarrer Dilwale will not cross even 150 crore

  • It is quite clear that 3 Idiots and TZP will be the best films of the lot with both 8.5 IMDB rating.
Dhoom 3 would be at last.

    Manwa Laage

    #NoHate
    #JustForFun

P.S- I’m a big SRK fan, this was just to lighten up the mood from the tension revolving around the clash

  • @Being Criminal The fact that you are insulting Salman and claiming to be an Aamir fan, when there is absolutely no reason for doing that, just proves that you are a fake id.

  • Its very tough choice to choose among 5 as I liked all these but my pick is TZP & 3i, followed by PK, ghajini and dhoom 3. In last 9 years there were 5 Christmas release from him and 4 years he has no release and in those 4 years including 2015 I don’t think any one can owe Christmas week from him.
    Legend Aamir Khan
Pk indeed remain highest grosser of all time till Dangal release.Even if dangal failed to break, Still Aamir hold the HGOAT title.

  • Muah Indicine for this article. Dil jeet litta.
Tzp is best, followed by 3 Idiots and PK.
SANTA CLAUS will come back next year on 23rd Dec 2016 and distribute gift to all moviegoers in the form of masterpiece Dangal.

  • SRK fans: Aamir’s movies are ATBB bcz he releases them in Dec.
Aamir: This year I’m leaving Dec for SRK. ATBB la ke dikhao.

    LOL!
