Just when the debate around the so-called ‘growing intolerance’ was subsiding, Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has added more fuel to the debate. The actor also went on to say that his wife was considering moving out of the country.
Here’s what he had to say at the Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards:
“As an individual, as part of this country as a citizen, we read in the papers what is happening, we see it on the news and certainly, I have been alarmed. I can’t deny. I have been alarmed by a number of incidents”
“When I chat with Kiran at home, she says ‘Should we move out of India?’ That’s a disastrous and big statement for Kiran to make. She fears for her child. She fears about what the atmosphere around us will be. She feels scared to open the newspapers every day. That does indicate that there is this sense of growing disquiet, there is growing despondency apart from alarm. You feel why this is happening, you feel low. That sense does exist in me”
“People who are our elected representatives, people who we select to look after us for five years, state or centre… when people take law into their hands, we look upon these people to take a strong stance, to make a strong statement, speed up the legal process, when we see that happening there is a sense of security but when we don’t see that happening there is a sense of insecurity.”
“A number of creative people — historians, scientists — increasingly had a certain feeling in them, which they felt they need to express. For creative people, one of the ways of expressing their dissatisfaction or their disappointment is to return their awards. I think that’s one way of getting your point across”
“All individuals have a right to protest and they can protest in any manner that they feel is right as long as they are not taking the law into their hands.”
In response to Aamir’s comments on intolerance, actor Anupam Kher posted a few tweets on Twitter.
“Dear @aamir_khan. Did you ask Kiran which country would she like to move out to? Did you tell her that this country has made you AAMIR KHAN.”
“Dear @aamir_khan. Did you tell Kiran that you have lived through more worse times in this country & but you never thought of moving out.”
“Dear @aamir_khan. When did ‘Incredible India’ become ‘Intolerant India’ for you? Only in the last 7-8 months? #AtithiDevoBhavah”
“Dear @aamir_khan Presumed country has become #Intolerant. Wat do u suggest 2 millions of Indians? Leave India? Or wait till regime changes?”

If india intolerant in rigerd with gays I fully support India, but if intolerant with racism, nationality and others, then its not ok, its time to worry.

Amir should shut up. India is a very tolerant country. One proof is that it is in India that movies such as Ready, Bodyguard and Dabang 2 were not already tolerated but also made blockbusters. Is there any other country in the entire world where the fans would make such crap movies a blockbuster?

How is criticising Aamir Khan intolerance? It is criticism. When Aamir Khan says, “I’m too scared to raise my kids in this country.” people are gonna get annoyed. It’s the same country which gave him fame. His response was outrageously dumb.
Look at the response given by Raghuram Rajan. He said the same thing. However he made his point without being overtly emotional/plain juvenile.
Aamir Khan’s statement of all the intolerance claims is the most silly and annoying.
I dont necessarily agree with claim of rising intolerance but people like Narayan Murthy and Raghuram Rajan have presented their views with grace.

You may be a follower of BJP or Modi but tell me one thing why there were no protests about intolerance in reign of Congress? First of all why should he took Koran name in the interview and what he told to her when she said. Did he told us about the same. Aamir is no srk and salman. If they feel living abroad will be a better environment for their child then thats their perogative. Their childs future comes first n any parent will do what they feel is the right thing to do. If they use intolerance as a factor in making the decision to leave then thats fine- their decision so they should weigh up every factor for staying or migrating- you nor anybody else should impose upon them what that decision should be or how they arrive at that decision…! If not, then I believe you would have studied and worked hard to make yourself reach that position where you are standing today. Yes, your kids will definitely enjoy their upbringing in a foreign country not because their hard work but their fate as they are your kids.
So when you are saying that Mr and Mrs Khan have all the rights to send their kids abroad in order to “Secure” their future, I understand that but what was the need of revealing the same in public?
Everybody knows that when it comes to education, medical treatment etc, these celebrities/politicians and their families always head towards foreign countries. So there is no rocket science hidden and its a known fact.
But now I will tell how such statements make a difference. Amir Khan is capable enough to send his family outside India , but think about that common youth who stays in a remote village and who is a big admirer of Amir. If he will come across this news , won’t it impact him personally ?
As he is not capable enough to move his family outside India but somewhere he will be scared about his future just because his idol made an statement. He will be forced to think, if there is a growing intolerance taking place in actual!!!
Also, you don’t have any rights to call others as morons because the constitution which gives Amir the rights to speak out of his heart, the same constitution give the same rights to others as well.
