The acting-career of Saif Ali Khan is nearing its end as ‘Rangoon’ is the 5th consecutive failure for the actor, whose last successful films were Race 2 (2013) and Cocktail (2012). Go Goa Gone lost some money but it wasn’t a outright failure and it didn’t feature Saif in the lead as well.
Saif was never a bankable star in solo films. He rejected a film like Aditya Chopra’s Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge at the beginning of his career. The turning point for him came when Shah Rukh Khan’s Kal Ho Na Ho released in 2003 and did well at the box office.
The following two years was when he touched his peak and signed films with the Top-2 female stars of the industry – Hum Tum with Rani Mukherji in 2004 and Salaam Namastey with Preity Zinta in 2005. It was also the time when not only the actresses, but also the banner Yash Raj Films was delivering back-to-back hits.
The highlights of Saif’s career are those first few films with Akshay Kumar at the beginning of his career. His three films with the Khans – Salman’s Hum Saath Saath Hai in the late 90s, Aamir’s Dil Chahta Hai in 2001 and Shah Rukh’s Kal Ho Na Ho in 2003. His other hits include Kya Kehna, Love Aaj Kal, Cocktail and the Race series of films.
His next release is ‘Chef’, a solo film directed by Raja Krishna Menon. It’s scheduled to release in July this year.

He was noticable only as Langda Tyagi… There is hardly any other role played by him for which he will be remembered
Humshaklas wasn’t a flop and phantom was an awesome film. He’s still got around 5 years to prove himself once again. It was at around this age when Salman Khan came strong back with Dabangg and wanted. Saif might have that too. He’s an awesome actor. Loved him in Race the most.
Why would u say his career is nearing an end? not good to be over negative. He’s proved himself as a bankable solo star with hum tum, Salam namaste and a few more but then u guys will stay say its cause of the heroines. Yes his work in the 90s wasn’t good but then 2000s he was doing good work. Chef will be awesome.
Phantom was worst. It sealed the fate on Katrina and Saif careers.
I don’t now how directors are still approaching saif Ali khan when his career was over way back during the time of go goa gone…..disastrous star ever..
He still has a good fan following among Family Audiences, only thing he needs is a good commercial movie, Chef looks like that movie. And if Chef fails, then it is the end of Saif’s career. Have high Hopes!
@indicine, I don’t care whether you like these actors or not, but stop making such biased articles stating actors like Imran khan, shahid kapoor and Saif Ali Khan don’t deserve any success and people should stop supporting them..they are great actors in different genres according to their fans and normal viewers as well..sure they have a couple of flops, but that doesn’t mean they should call it quits..they should at least try their best by choosing right films and get better opportunities to succeed once more..Saif has had terrible luck where even his films with some top directors have failed..phantom, humshakals, happy ending and Rangoon should have been hits..but they all failed because content wasn’t upto the mark according to audiences..
Saif was a good bankable star in the 2004-2012 period but nvr managd to get superstardom. Going through a terrible phase. Hope he bounces back with Chef though cant regain his 2000s stardom ever

Sajid Khan makes good films only with Akshay Kumar. Coz Akki is the only actor who can live the crazy characters Sajid creates. Maybe that’s why Sajid Khan has a hit without Akshay Kumar. Also whenever the two have come up together, Akshay delivered his biggest opener and biggest hit. They shouldn’t have removed him from the Housefull franchise.

If u see the filmography of said u find that his character is based on NRI peoples . He is good actor no doubt but bad choices of film . I like his performance in Agent vinod he played RAW agent . But Agent Vinod wasn’t good than Holiday , Baby , Airlifts . I like also latest patriotic film Gazi Attack one of the best patriotic film ever made .

If we include GGG Rangoon is the 6th consecutive failure for Saif Ali Khan . It is difficult to see Saif not being able to make a huge impact after being in the industry since 1992 . In 90’s he was a mediocre actor and got success playing supporting roles to Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan . DCH was a turning point in his career when people started taking him seriously . He had given some brilliant performances but in the last 4 years his choices have been pretty bad . He got success in DCH, Kal Ho Na Ho, Hum Tum, Salaam Namaste, Ta Ra Rum Pum, Race, Love Aaj Kal, Cocktail and Race 2 . He has received critical acclaim for his performances in Omkara, Ek Hasina Thi, Being Cyrus, Parineeta and Aarakshan . In the last few years neither his films are working and neither his performances are being appreciated . Chef will be a very important film in his career because if it fails it will be very difficult to make a comeback .

his acting as second lead is more memorable.
with 3khans ,Akshay or even with Hrithik.
Saif is good with all department action comedy or Romance.
but commercial suits him better.

Reason for Rangoon failure is not because of Shahid or Saif…….that’s ridiculous.
I guess this bringing down actors putting up negative articles on @ indicine on these two guys is getting too much. One has been here since two decades, the other has completed a decade, so even strings of flops are not going to affect them. Lets give them a break.
Pertinent to note here is that, Shahid and Saif are not A-listed stars, they never were.
So, when they are signed, the director or makers should have known this “fact” that public are not going to come to see these two guys.
So, you need good alternate reasons to attract the crowd, that is, good content that may include the storyline, the songs or something special etc., that adds and plays positively in getting the crowd to come out to see it.
The only star in the movie was Kangana, but sadly, when was the last time a movie with a niche storyline of an actress has done big business? You have to some extraordinary script and movie making to work in the actress favour, eg., Dirty Picture, Queen, Pink etc.,……majority of others have been average or flops.
Without all these one cannot expect a movie to make a hit.
It is easy to point out all the flaws and judgemental errors after a movie flops. The director, makers and actors are all seasoned guys and will bounce back with something special in their next. So chill.
Indicine why are you behaving paranoid as off lately? Calling out actors and being brutally honest. Saif made his debut even before there was Internet. He has seen his ups and downs. Only he knows when his career will end.
Even in a recent Q&A article you were harsh to Akshay and his fans. And I being one we are not living in delusion. We know that he hasn’t had 150 crore grossers but you can’t compare movies like Airlift, Rustom, Jolly LLB2 to Ek Tha Tiger, Sultan or Bajrangi that provide wholesome family entertainment. If he does movies like Rowdy Rathore, Welcome and Singh is King then it is a different story. Comparing Salman’s box office Pull to Akshay’s like comparing World Cup to T 20 World Cup. Obviously World Cup has more value.
Stop with these ridiculous negative articles. You think of John Abraham, Imran Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Shahid Kapoor to be absolutely nothing. Let me tell you that there’s no fitness icon like John in the country, there’s no dancer like Shahid, there’s no actor like Saif (National award winner) and Imran is one of the most charismatic actors of Bollywood. They just need some more time and I know that these stars will deliver where their talent and hardworking will meet its destination.
@Viren, you are at the wrong place. The reader base here is for box office articles. We can’t be analysing the business of a films and talking about fitness icon and national awards. There were multiple national award winners in Rangoon, but why isn’t the audience paying to watch their films? If Imran Khan was one of the most charismatic actors, why did his career end at the age of 32? Shahid has been in the industry for 14 years, almost the same amount of time as Hrithik and thrice the amount of time as Ranveer and Varun. Why does he have so many flops?
The article on him, which was published 2 days ago, was constructive criticism. He still has a lot of time, if his choices improve and audience come to watch his films, we’ll be the first to appreciate him.
We are here to put across our opinion, when a film does well, it will be appreciated. When the audience rejects a film, it’ll be criticised. This isn’t any small-time rejection, Rangoon Sunday was less than Friday.
