Mohenjo Daro: 2 years of research and hard work, rejected in a day

Rustom has emerged victorious in the clash against Mohenjo Daro. The industry is celebrating – because niche films like ‘Rustom’ do not usually achieve the kind of success that the crime-thriller has.

Akshay Kumar is getting all the accolades, not just for the success of his film, but also for the film-choices that he has made in the recent past.

All well deserved.

But while one camp is rejoicing, let’s take a moment to reflect on the pain that the makers of Mohenjo Daro are going through. Almost all films and actors have faced rejection at some point in their career, but a film like Mohenjo Daro probably hurts more than others.

2 years of hard, tons of research, sleepless nights, the lead star of the film battling through a personal low during the shooting schedule and suffered several injuries. The rest of the cast and crew also worked tirelessly in extremely difficult conditions to shoot for the film.

Hrithik Roshan Look in Mohenjo Daro

All of that meant nothing as Mohenjo Daro was rejected on the first day itself. The footfalls (tickets sold) of the film will be the lowest for a Hrithik Roshan starrer in a long long time. More than the audience rejecting the film, what’ll really hurt everyone involved is the fact that majority of the audience did not even watch the film. That’s the least that you expect after all the struggle – a fair chance for your film. Mohenjo Daro did not even get that.

Hrithik’s presence ensured a face-saving total, without which Mohenjo Daro could well have been a ‘Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey’ for Ashutosh Gowariker.

Where does the acclaimed director of a Oscar nomination film go from here, that too after three back-to-back failures? Will Pooja Hegde get another chance? Will Hrithik make a strong comeback with Kaabil? These are some of the many questions that’ll be asked in the next few days.

  • Producers of MD should have listened to future audience.
People are not stupid! Yes, they are not historians, they do not know that there were 4 thousand years ago, but people are not stupid!
I know too that according to the American movies it is impossible to study history. For example “Gladiator”, but you trust this movie unconditionally why?
Because in this movie all trifles indicate that time. That attention to detail, plausible clothing, household trifles – all this has convinced the viewer to believe in history and has forced them to leave money.

But this did not happen. The trailer shown all, what could not be trusted.
And it was a big mistake!
    This comment I wrote a month ago. Only excerpts from him;
    “…
    1. They sing “Mohenjo Daro”? I heard right? They named their city as we are, that is, people of the XXI century? And if you translate, the city called the “Mound of the Dead Men”! Are you serious? Who wants to live in a city with such a name?
    2. Why the girl has a long skirt? Why to her it, if at a skirt a section to a waist? What does the skirt hide? Where logic? …
    3. And the shoes! Have you seen their sandals? Why not barefoot? It’s logical !!! Shoes up to XX century was considered a luxury !!!
    4. And jewelry? They had steel tools, mines? Where they are diamonds, sapphires and other stones got? The girl has all dress in stones? Where logic???

…See, it’s like watching a movie, “Awaara” in which Raj Kapoor steals iPhone, rather than watch on a chain. This is not to respect themselves, to watch this movie !!!
I am outraged by everything in this film, and especially words Gowariker, he studied the history of the MD. A liar and a scoundrel !!!
I was waiting for this movie, and he cruelly deceived my expectations, moreover summed Hrithik (this will be a flop, no man in his right mind watching this profile is not, will wait for the DVD).
And the main thing is not to cancel the premiere! It is necessary to re-shoot everything and give his date Rais SRK. Or ….. Lord, I do not know how to save this film!”

This comment I wrote a month ago. 1 vote “for” and 32 “against”.
Do you still believe that this movie worth your money?

I will repeat, it was necessary that the audience has believed in history, and for this purpose the director had to transmit spirit of that era what it hasn’t been made. It is impossible to watch the movie and not to believe what occurs on the screen. In the movie “Jodhaa Akbar” you trust, in “MD” – no!

  • @indicine please post the latest poster of shivaay. It’s been out since 2 days but you haven’t posted it yet. Please do it as soon as possible. It’s the best poster so far

  • Contrary to paid media campaign, Mohenjo Daro is safe for its producers
Ever since the first promo of Hrithik Roshan Starrer Mohenjo Daro came, the knives were out by paid media campaign dissecting the promo and its historical “inaccuracies” when the reality is nothing concrete is ever recorded by historians about the Indus valley civilisation.

The movie finally released on 12th august 2016 on a low note thanks to the largely negative perception created by paid camps. But to the dismay of the camp, the movie has not been doing too badly. Mohenjo Daro opened to 8.87 crores on its first day with a clash with the hugely hyped Rustom Starring Akshay Kumar. The movie was expected to crash in the weekend but contrary to the media perception, the film grew very well over the weekend and made over 40 crores in 4 days over the extended weekend. Then it was expected to crash completely in the weekdays. But the movie sustained at a mid level and actually rose to 45% from its wednesday collection and took complete advantage of the partial holiday on thursday taking its tally to around 52 crores nett in 7 days. The overseas business is even better with the week finishing over 24 crores. The trend over the week proves one thing – the general audience has lapped up the movie even if in miniscule circuits.

Contrary to what the paid media camp is reporting, Neither Hrithik Roshan nor UTV are fools to just invest 115 crores budget without any buffer. Hrithik is reported to have taken 50 crores as fees for this movie and hence the budget of the movie shot up to over 100 crores. But little do they know it is Hrithik who has got the makers a satellite rights of 45 crores as part of his multicrore deal. The music rights were sold at 15 crores which has brought the original budget od 115 crores down to 55 crores. Now here’s the catch, the movie has done over 50 crores in domestic circuits and is expected to finish at a lifetime of 60-65 crores and overseas around 35-40 crores which easily recovers the 55 crores effective budget of the film. The film has not managed to make huge profits like Hrithik’s previous big grossers like Krrish 3 or Agneepath but it is certainly not a “huge loss making” or “disaster” as some media has been reporting viciously. The movie has certainly underperformed but lets not forget the makers are not fools. They knew what they were getting into while making a period film like Mohenjo Daro which wont have much takers anyway. The fact that the movie has held its own against all odds says a lot.

  • Mohanjo daro is best mov of hrithk. Hrithk are all film is best for box office award. Present box office award guast for hrithk from mohanjo daro.

  • If I would analyze why Mohenjo Dharo didn’t “click”!! and everyone was not so exited to see it, probably the main reason is the heroine.. she doesn’t have the charisma on the screen, she’s like a ‘be’ category, doesn’t fit in a heroine’s role, although she got a pretty face. Second could be the costume design.. it’s in 2016BC.. which means thousands year ago, the costume, Hrithik’s look and his cloth were not perfect for the era which the story talked about ( except the scene where he fights with the 2 savage guys who look like beasts.. that was the correct costumes for it’s time). 3rd reason could be the slow songs, not that great, 4th reason could be the script.. all together didn’t encourage ppl to go and watch it. I am myself is an example as when I saw the trailer, I thought that the film is not that interesting, the trailers talk sometimes for sure but I wanted to watch it only for Hrithik Roshan, so would not miss any of his films.
