By the end of its second weekend, Bahubali 2 will become the first ‘Indian’ film to cross the 1000 crore (gross) mark worldwide. But Hindi Cinema’s biggest ever grosser, Dangal, does have a chance to become the first ‘Hindi’ film to gross 1000 crore worldwide.
Dangal, which is still running to very good occupancy at a select few theatres in India, has collected Rs 723 crore worldwide. It needs to collect $43 million from China and Taiwan (where it’s already setting records) – which is a huge total – but the possibility cannot be ruled out given the box office pull of Aamir Khan in the most populous country in the world.
Aamir is the only Indian actor who commands a following in China and his previous films have all set records for Hindi films in the country. The actor has
3 Idiots went on to collect $2.25 million (nearly 15 crore), Dhoom 3 did very well and ended up becoming the highest Indian grosser in China with collections of $3.15 million.
Then came PK, which was record-breaking. It released on 4600 screens, collected nearly $1 million on its opening day, $2.5 million on its second day and $1.9 million on its 3rd day. The first weekend business was $5.4 million. The lifetime collections of $19.5 million was nearly four times its first weekend collections.
See the trend? Dhoom 3 collected 40% more than 3 Idiots and PK collected 517% more than Dhoom 3. PK and 3 Idiots were the more superior films with ’emotion’ playing a big role, while Dhoom 3 was an action film – which still managed excellent collections because of Aamir’s presence. It has to be noted here that ‘Happy New Year’, ‘My Name Is Khan’ and few other Hindi films were washouts in China.
Now, with Dangal managing to garner more hype than any other Indian film (including PK), the expectations for the first weekend itself is as high as $10 million. If those numbers are achieved, a $40 million plus lifetime will be well within reach – giving the film a chance to cross the 1000 crore worldwide mark at around the same time as ‘Bahubali 2: The Conclusion’.
Aamir Khan has gone all out to promote ‘Dangal’ in China, spending nearly a week in the country. The film releases in Chinese theatres on May 5.
$43 million will be tough. I think it will do $20-$35 million
I think Indicine is forgetting that a major Hollywood Blockbuster #GuardiansoftheGalaxyVol2 is releasing on the same day in China and that film holds a serious fan base in China so I don’t think #Dangal can set the BoxOffice on fire like #PK.

3 Idiots and PK have done amazing business in China . Dangal has done solid business all over the world . hindi movies with a well planned strategy works in China….
They(Chinese people) want to watch a film in their own language…..MnIK, HNY were not really dubbed, neither were promoted in the most populated country and the result was totally washout….
whereas PK was dubbed in their local language..dubbing was done by well known Chinese actors and Aamir himself promoted it well with jacky chan in that country….and the result was a huge 120cr+ in that country alone…
same happening with Dangal..movie is dubbed in Chinese to pull more crowds and Amir himself went there to promote it well for an entire week….even the release time is almost same as that of PK in China

Aamir is the only superstar whose films works “globally” in literal terms.
All other stars’ movies are working in countries that have Indian population, but China doesn’t have Indian population. His movies in China is watched by locals and not NRIs.
So, who is the true global star?
No doubts on that. It is Aamir. He has worked out a lot to achieve it. Kudos to him and his determination.

Some silly fans think that just by dubbing in Chinese the movie will work……No it will not. There were many martial artist whose films came to India and worldwise, but only Jackie Chan’s worked, because his movies gives us a genuine feeling of good martial arts + entertainment.

I really want to see Dangal in No.1 position, hum aamir fans ko aadat ho gayi hai aamir khan ko No.1 pe dekh ke. Pichle 10 saal se aamir rule kar raha hai, except for 4 months during chennai express. Aur ab suddenly some unknown actor came and fetching this No.1 position from aamir. I’m really sad. Aamir khan was no.1 he is No.1 and he will remain the No.1 in Indian cinema.
Bollywood sites are trying hard to to save the bollywood from the bashing of bahubali 2.. Look at this site, by saying hindi hindi and bla bla they are just trying to prove that dangal is on par with bahubali 2.. Before Baahubali we thought that Aamir Khan films are invincible at Box Office but now the scenario has changed quite dramatically so irrespective of what Dangal will do in China,,, it is nowhere close to what Baahubali 2 has done at B.O globally,,,, RIP to the Khan’s era.

1. Baahubali 2 unable to broke the highest opening of HNY 44 cr (manipulated big time).

3. Now this kind of article trying to establish Dangal will do 1000 cr like Baahubali 2 (while every record to Dangal has been washed out by Baahubali 2)
