Q. What’s your expectation from Vivek Oberoi’s movie Bank Chor co-starring Ritesh Deshmukh. Does this film have any chance of crossing 100 crore at the box office? - Mritunjay Singh.
A. Too early to talk about Bank Chor as the trailer hasn’t yet released. Ritesh and Vivek’s last film together, Grand Masti, collected Rs 100 crore at the box office, but that film was a sequel and also had sex as its USP. Bank Chor will be a very different film from Grand Masti and for the film to even collect 70 crore+, the word of mouth has to be fantastic.

Q. Is there any chance of Baby getting 4000 screens in India?
A. No. The film is releasing on 2700 screens (approx), which is wide enough for a film that doesn’t have universal appeal like those big-budget commercial entertainers. Highest number of screen doesn’t necessarily mean higher collections, because if there is no audience for a film like Baby at a smaller town / village, the film won’t be released there. In fact, releasing a film where there is no market will result in losses for both distributors and exhibitors.
Q. Can the 335 crore figure of PK be broken by Fan, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Rohit Shetty’s film with SRK or Tamasha in 2015?
A. It would take a special film with incredible word-of-mouth and perfect release date to beat the lifetime collections of PK. Fan has no chance because the film isn’t releasing during one of the three festive weekend. Ditto for Tamasha, Ranbir still doesn’t command the kind of following that Khans do at smaller centres. It will be difficult for Prem Ratan Dhan Payo too, as the youth might not take to the film in a big way. Out of all the film, Bajrangi Bhaijaan and SRK-Rohit film have the best chance, but 335 crore is a good 100 crore more than the highest grossers of Salman or SRK.

Too many requirements to fulfill: A superstar + An exceptional release date + A super-strong story which bridges the gap between commerce and art + hiked ticket prices.

Srk-rohit’s next has the best chance of breaking Pk’s record if it has an ideal release date.
I don’t find any film in near future that will break PK’s record..Targeting that record with a masala film will always prove to be a failure..Sallu tried chasing 3I with Dabangg,Bodyguard,Ready,ETT but failed each time,coz the WOM for these films is’nt the strongest.
SRK did it with CE but it took him 4 years to do so..
There are many excellent directors in india like Vishal bhardwaj,zoya,Anurag kashyap,SLB but I don’t think anyone of those have the formula of making a universal appealing film with content and entertainment like Hirani…
So PK record will be out of reach,atleast for 3 years acc. to me.

It will be tough for any movie to break the record of PK . Because for breaking records all the movies have to cross two milestones – Dhoom 3 and PK . I don’t think BB can break the record of PK . If it is a good movie which i hope it should be then it can be Salman’s highest grosser and can touch 250 CR . PRDP can break the records of PK but for that it should be an incredible movie . This is the biggest challenge of Sooraj Barjatya because he is coming back to direction after 9 years . It will be difficult for the youth to relate to such kind of movie . In 90’s people loved such kind of movies but now it looks tough . If Sooraj can make a movie that can hit the chords of youth then it can create history . As for SRK – Rohit Shetty’s next no comments on that because i don’t know anything about the movie and i don’t think so it can release in 2015 . As much as I would love to say PRDP but honesyly speaking Sonam is a big let down already as shes no Madhuri n I think the family oriented movie itself is limited so may not have that big a repeat value for multiplex audiences. A short crispy film may work but if its long then it could be a negative. No real chance for it and BB n kings next are masala genre movies so unless they have something new to tell us then max they may be is a two time watch so they will lack a repetitive audience.
Only Aamirs next in 2017 at the earliest will be the realistic record breaker.

MPK was ATBB and the record was broken by non other than salman and suraj’s HAHK. so I think PRDP will surely become ATBB and has plenty of chance to cross 300 crores.

One point must be noted pk fottfalls is less than ett, hike ticket rates n wider release is the reason for pk to do 300cr. Even if d3 release inspite of pk then 360cr possible. I prefer Srk Rs next have best chance to beat pk if it will be accepeted like ce. Dhoom3 record looks unbreable in 2014 but pk did it as business is growing, ra1 easily cross 200cr if it comes in 2014

I don’t think its even a must for them to cross 335crores…even Salman and Shah Rukh would just want a an ATBB or BB which yes they r very capable of doing so!!
