Udta Punjab has collected Rs 11.25 crore on Saturday, which is excellent growth because the film had opened well on Friday due to the controversy. It was expected to drop on Saturday, but the strong word-of-mouth has ensured that the film will have a strong first weekend at the box office.
On Sunday, Udta Punjab has started stronger than both Friday and Saturday. Major cities are recording excellent collections, even the Mysore circuit has grown over the weekend as cities like Bangalore and Mangalore have shown good growth.
East Punjab is outstanding and the collections are more than double of other ‘dark’ / ‘limited mass appeal’ films. In the NCR region, Udta Punjab is performing like a commercial film.
The first weekend business should comfortably cross the 33 crore mark.

Set to give his fans a taste of variety, superstar Shah Rukh Khan has revealed his three upcoming on screen avatars– a dwarf, a guide and a warrior.
Shah Rukh Khan is teaming up with directors Aanand L Rai, Imtiaz Ali and reuniting with close friend Aditya Chopra for three big projects.
It has been speculated that the 50-year-old actor is playing a dwarf in Rai’s film, a guide in Ali’s next and a warrior in movie with Chopra.
While Shah Rukh hasn’t taken names, he has confirmed the roles he is set to take upon, in a Twitter post.
“I am a Warrior, a Dwarf & a Guide. I am not what I ought to, want or hope to be… I am all that & I am what I am. My two bits on my upcoming ‘roles’,” the “Fan” star tweeted.

I watched this movie Friday evening.
It was entertaining.
First half an hour was to set the plot , then movie became interesting.
There was some slow moments in second half.
Alia was superb in her bihari accent.

This is fantastic. Even if it had shown a 10% drop on Saturday it would have been acceptable coz it had a very good Friday. But it has shown growth which is awesome.
This is excellent opening considering it is primarily an offbeat movie with dark shades to it. Dont know when such a movie scored that big on box office. Talaash was one but it had Amir so it cannot be compared. Another is Badlapur but it did around 23 crore in first 3 days which UP has achieved almost in two days.
There has been talk about the movie having an advantage on day 1 due to controversies. But whatever that that advantage (whether big or small) was it ended on day 1. These collections on day 2 are purely on the basis of the content of the movie and the performances of actors. Social media is completey abuzz how great the movie is and the performances of actors have been loved by all. WoM looks to be very positive.
Expecting it to touch 35 crore over the weekend and then hopefully hold well over the weekdays. Lifetime I am also expecting it to wrap up within 80 cr so should be a clean hit at least or superhit (depending upon the economics).

The performance in the East Punjab circuit was expected, as Diljit Dosanjh is a megastar up north.But these are excellent collections for a shahid starrer.Udta Punjab deserves such collections. Proud to see Bollywood churning out hits in June again,first Housefull 3 then Udta Punjab. Surely this good run will continue with Sultan, Mohenjo-Daro and Rustom.Hoping for the best!

Stop giving all credits to bloody controversy for UP success. It is big a big insult to everyone (be it makers or actors associated to UP). The same controversy makes thousands of others not to watch the movie (mostly nihlani supporters). Also it leaked on Internet 3days before of its theatrical release. Why don’t you mention those things too???
