Udta Punjab has collected Rs 11.25 crore on Saturday, which is excellent growth because the film had opened well on Friday due to the controversy. It was expected to drop on Saturday, but the strong word-of-mouth has ensured that the film will have a strong first weekend at the box office.
On Sunday, Udta Punjab has started stronger than both Friday and Saturday. Major cities are recording excellent collections, even the Mysore circuit has grown over the weekend as cities like Bangalore and Mangalore have shown good growth.
East Punjab is outstanding and the collections are more than double of other ‘dark’ / ‘limited mass appeal’ films. In the NCR region, Udta Punjab is performing like a commercial film.
The first weekend business should comfortably cross the 33 crore mark.

Udta punjab is great movie. Shahid kapoor is superb as Tommy Singh. He is really really impressive. Alia has also done great job. I will not surprised if she win national awards for best actress. Kareen and diljit dosanji also did good job.

well said…agreed controversy had some minute key roles to play on its collections but they are making it sound as if that’s d main reason. None of them even praised ShaHid Kareena Alia for some stellar performances and acknowledging the fact they too have good fan base. Youths and excellent script of d movie are d main foundation for its additional bonuses esp d growth on Saturday and Sunday seems we are looking @33.5-36 weekend collections. If Monday holds well expect it’s lifetime collection to be somewhere around 78-87 crs. IA.

agree with u there…Rustam is a more safer project and with good content it can go beyond @Indicine projection. Though I still feel if released seperatly it would have been better for both parties. MD still looks a very high grossing movie with or without clash. Am sure when the trailers are out we will have a more in-depth scenario with possible actions to be taken from both camps but don’t see MD postponing its release date.
