When ‘Tubelight’ released in theatres during the Eid weekend, the absolute least that the trade expected out of the film was a 200-225 crore grosser. But with the film completing its 10-day run at the box office, ‘Tubelight’ is running on very few shows at multiplexes and the occupancy level for those shows – all across the country – is dismal.
The second weekend collections of a few films in recent times are as follows:
- Bahubali 2 (Hindi) - 80.75 crore
- Dangal - 73.7 crore
- Bajrangi Bhaijaan – 56.1 crore
- Sultan - 34.07 crore
- Badrinath Ki Dulhania - 17.56 crore
- Hindi Medium - 12.14 crore
- Tubelight – 8 crore (approx)
The above comparison sums up the disastrous trend of ‘Tubelight’, as the second weekend collections is less than 10% of ‘Bahubali 2 (Hindi)’ and half of ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’ which was a much smaller film.
The second weekend business of ‘Sultan’ wasn’t excellent last year, the trend wasn’t even close to as good as ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, yet in comparison to the latest Salman Khan Eid release, ‘Sultan’ business was on a different level altogether.
‘Tubelight’ has collected around 115 crore in its first 10 days. It’ll finish with lifetime business in the 120 crore net range, which is just a little better than Jai Ho – the only other under-performing Salman Khan film in the last 7 years.

It is difficult to describe but Tubelight has been a massive failure . In this decade this is the biggest Khan flop . This film is a nightmare for distributors . The failure of Tubelight proves one thing one film can change the equation pretty quickly . Trade and people had massive expectations from Tubelight both in terms of business and content but it has failed big time . Because of Tubelight there will extra pressure on Salman, YRF and Ali Abbas Zafar as they are coming on Christmas with TZH . From the 2nd day itself Tubelight crashed and from Tuesday everything was crystal clear . This shows 300 CR is not a joke and it needs something special even for a Superstar . Kabir Khan was on a dream run with ETT and BB which comes to an end with Tubelight . He needs to reinvent himself and bounce back in a better manner . This film will be discouraging for Salman as an actor and as a producer . For breaking records you just don’t need but starpower but you need starpower+content+entertainment+recall value in 2nd, 3rd and 4th week . !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Watched its last night its a good movie which makes lots of sense when we look around what is happening in India today. People are used to watching senseless Salman movies and that’s what they expect from Salam movies that’s the only reason the movie got completely rejected. Respect for Kabir Khan as a director doubled after watching this. The only director who is making relevant movies.
