Ranveer Singh in yet another controversy, this time involving sharks

Reacting to the issue raised by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) over a Rupa Frontline advertisement featuring actor Ranveer Singh thrashing a shark, the brand’s spokesperson said that the visuals were not intended to offend anyone, and added that a disclaimer would soon be attached to the commercial.

The recent advertisement garnered negative response due to visuals showing Ranveer taking a dive into an ocean to save a girl from a shark and beating up a shark to portray his masculinity.

“This is to clarify that the shark shown in the latest Rupa commercial featuring Ranveer Singh is a rubber toy, no animal was used in the shoot. It is not our intention to hurt anyone’s sentiment. We will be adding a disclaimer to the ad to this effect,” said Mukesh Agarwal, whole-time director, Rupa & Co. Ltd. brand’s spokesperson, in a statement.

While condemning the advertisement, the animal rights organisation raised concerns and said it plans to take the matter forward by writing to the actor and the brand.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Poorva Joshipura, PETA India CEO, said: “PETA will be writing to Rupa Frontline and Ranveer Singh to share our concerns on behalf of sharks and today’s socially aware youth.”

The animal rights organisation also condemned the gesture of using an animal to woo someone.

“By recruiting Ranveer Singh, Rupa Frontline is desperately trying to attract youth, but nothing shows how utterly out of touch with youngsters the company actually is than its depiction of cruelty to animals in its advertisement. There is nothing sexy about pretending to beat up an animal, and nothing that may disgust a girl more.

“The ‘ruthless killers’ in the human-shark relationship are actually the humans. Recent studies indicate that up to 73 million sharks are killed each year, mainly for their fins, which are put in soups and eaten mostly in Asia. India is the second largest shark fishing nation in the world,” Joshipura added.

This is not the first time Ranveer has courted controversy. The actor’s recent brush with an issue was when he took part in the controversial “AIB Roast”.

  • People like to make a big deal out of or take offense to anything. It was just an ad with no real animal involved and has no link with the hunting if sharks.

  • That was one of the craziest ads ive seen (in a good way). It was done in a funny manner so anyone taking offense to it is either attention seeking or needs to lighten up.

  • Saw this ad didn’t want to but couldn’t find remote at dat time:(
And believe me he’s 100× more irritating and cheap than what he’s in most of his films

  • Hats off to Indian judiciary system!! Two major crimes happend in 2002 in India…. One has get away and became prime minister of India and other became a super star!!! No one cares life of the innocents!! It’s all about money and relations with major business people and spilling some pea nuts to media!! That’s all you need to become hero from zero!

  • PETA is foolish…as per science Plants are also living bodies then one day they will say dont eat anything other then stones ….such organisations are lipstic cosmatic mad community

  • Do whateverwhatever youngistan team, but don’t take someone’s life by run your cruzer over someone or shoot any endangered species.

This PETA is overreacting towards Ranveer,if they really would have care about animals they should have filed case against salman and should have sent him to jail till now, this is nothing but big publicity by PETA to trouble celebrities and forgot about real criminals who is roaming freely outside by killing endangered species like black bucks.

  • This is India bro…even a criminal like Salman khan got bail within hours after got convicted for 5 years

  • So…….PETA thought that the shark was real? I think the disclaimer would just make people think that they are making fun of them as that did not resemble a shark in any way. Now tomorrow they will sue Nickelodeon for showing SpongeBob fighting with Star Fish!

  • Although I hate this actor but this time there is nothing wrong in what he has done..

To fir to human Rights walo ko bhi sabhi actors ko bolna chahiye ki vo action scenes na kare kyuki usme humans ko marne wale scenes hote h..
