Housefull 3 was steady on Day 8 at the box office, which has given the film a chance to finish with lifetime business of around the same level as the previous film in the series.
Compared to the opening day collections of Post IPL releases, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani remains the biggest of them all. With inflation adjusted, the opening day of the film today would have been somewhere around the 23-24 crore mark – which is still considered to be phenomenal for a non-festive and working day release. The other films that fall in the ‘excellent’ category would be ‘Ready’, ‘Raajneeti’ and ‘Rowdy Rathore’.

Moving on to the lifetime collections of the ‘Post IPL’ films. Like we’ve mentioned in several articles, it’s been one of the best periods to release films. Return-on-investment and verdict-wise, probably even more so than the Diwali period – which has had only one blockbuster in last few years (Krrish 3). On the other hand, Post IPL period is filled with blockbusters – due to lower budget films, as compared to Diwali.
Looking at the trends, Housefull 3 would probably finish with lifetime business of 110 – 120 crore. The target will be to beat the 2011 film ‘Ready’ and Akshay’s own ‘Holiday: A Solider is Never Off Duty’. The Top 3 films will be out of reach, unless the film manages to show astounding growth this weekend (i.e better than last week) and Udta Punjab gets postponed to a later date.

The film has already recovered its investment and is a clean-hit at the box office. But when it comes to franchise growth (HF3 released 4 years after HF2) and meeting yearly expectations from a favourable period – Housefull 3 could well be considered a ‘under-performer’ when it finally finishes its run in about 3 weeks from now.
Always wondered why Akshay struggles to give big grossers? Airlift was his most acclaimed and liked film.. it did 128 with one extra holiday in 1st week.
Holiday was liked by many.. but just did 113 crore.
Hosuefull 3 is his biggest film and trend is very good.. but still might not cross 4 years old Housefull 2??
Wondering which Akshay film in the future will beat collections of Rowdy Rathore? Robot Two might be.. but that’s got Rajnikant. Akshay is not the lead hero.

BOI has said business has not increasded in last 4 yrs as it increased in 09-12 period..if you keep comparing wih 2012 data then most of salman khan films like prdp,kick,dabang 2 are under performers…since ek tha tiger almost did 200 cr in 2012 only…what will be fan and dilwale then since ra one did 115 in 2011..stop comparing like this…housefull 2 did extremely well at that time and therefore it was a superhit and hf3 is a hit…acc to u if pk sequel released next yr .even 350 will ne under performance for it
Considering the start and the initial due to no buzz because of the avg trailer n poor songs…these sort of collections r really good n also considering the standing of comedy genre in public in this era…also i had a doubt somwhere in my mind that this movie may fail considering the above factors…still a clean hit is gr8 business nd yet it is not completely out of the race of a superhit tag….so hope for the best n cheers to akki his amazing performance helped this movie…so take a bow sir…#respect
because he releases 4 films per yr ,his films will always be 125 cr range since public first see reviews and then go knowing another film coming in 3 months time and then doing diverse films like airlift and hf3 divides the viewing public as some prefers him in airlift kind of movies and some in hf3 types..wat u ppl want..him doing 4 films and then give 200 cr grossers also…he will be god if not only him for that matter anyone does it…May be Amitabh would have done it ..no one else comes close…
And yeah the biggest factor of non holiday had this movie been released on edx it would have def crossed 200..but i just wish akshay does hp3 as soon as possible as wheneva that movie will be up for a release be it holiday or non holiday…all records will b shattered i just hope that akki does that movie..eagerlu waiting for him to do that movie…the amazing trio raju..baburao n shyaam will rule the boxoffice..

problem with akshay is that every three months he releases one movie and due to huge multiplex ticket prices the person who sees his first movie invariably skips his second and may go for the third. so every time he has to find new neutral fans as fans of other actors won’s see his movies. unless he restricts his release to one or two he will never cross 120-130 crs range. might be he is happy with the way things are going for the time being.
@HSV and Ayush, but that hasn’t spotted him from delivering big grossers in the past. Housefull 2 released 4-5 months after Desi Boyz and Rowdy Rathore released less than 2 months after Housefull 2. He also maintained the same pace when he was at the peak of his career in the previous decade.

But looking at the opening of 15 crs , it has done well. Trend is decent.

One thing @indicine you didn’t mentioned is that all succesfull films of 2016 have been critical appreciated films and H3 is d first non critics friendly film that succeed. Further talking aabout franchise, why did kya kool hai hum failed? ! No matter what you people say trying to dissect and detailed Akshay’s super stardom will fail. When was the last time your so called mega stars released on a non holiday? Between the last two releases of Salman for e.g akshay has released up to 8 films. Not to mention that with the likes of Aamir. Hrithik Or SRK. So put your sabotage out there Rustom will succeed big. H3 has already put u guys to shame. Phunny website. (exception salman khan whose movies anyway run on his star power). so i feel its a good collection if not great. also releasing a nonsense comedy after airlift and making it a clean hit itself is an achievement.

Indicine u r not understanding some movie works within same time period coz of many factors as he’s one of the biggest star..Even at his peak bt we must admit dat wid dat pace he can’t make d consistency for the longer period of time. If he ld ve started releasing 2 movies post 2008 den by now he ld ve been uncomparable totally different to different level.. Look at salman khan releases before 2010 stil he used to give some hits in between. Aftr superhit wanted he gave 3 flops coz all were released between 5-6 month.
And … even when akshay was at the peak of his career last decade …. was he able to give a record braeking opening ??
