The day after Diwali puja has been one of the best days for movie business in the last few years. This year was no different, what with Happy New Year amassing Rs 44.97 crore on its opening day.
Back in 2011, Shahrukh Khan’s Ra One collections 24.31 crore (including all versions). In 2012, the combined business of Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Son Of Sardaar was Rs 35.75 crore and last year Krrish 3 also took the box office by storm collecting Rs 35.91 crore (all versions) on its 4th day.
If the normal year-on-year growth continues, the film that releases next Diwali could collect more than 50 crore on a single day.
- 2011: Ra One – 24.31 crore
- 2012: Jab Tak Hai Jaan (19.54 cr) and Son Of Sardaar (16.21 cr) – 35.75 crore (growth of 47.05%)
- 2013: Krrish 3 - 35.91 crore (growth of less than 1% as compared to two films in the previous year)
- 2014: Happy New Year – 44.97 crore (growth of 25%)

I am not sure whether PK will break the opening day record of HNY if the producers’ figures are true!! But I am damn sure that it will do 300 Crores in the long run. It is 3 Idiots kinda movie that requires one to watch it repeatedly and hence, it will run in theatres more than a month!

HNY rating in book my show has dropped to 65%..which is not great sign…first 3 days are great but post it..HNY is surely to come down….WOM is ok, not great. 240-260 crores lifetime expected.

@hny collected what was expected on day 1,40cr + opening. It’s great,now weekend will be around 125cr min as per producer and 115cr as per trade,so 13cr more than d3 if I take trade figure. Its good as d3 was 172min long and hny 180 min so both are long still able to achieve fantastic mark,so hny is set for 250cr + let’s see will it cross d3 or not as wom is looking positive.
Frankly from trailer I didn’t expect it to entertaing but it is as per the reviews coming.
Let’s see where the collection end.
I read here some said that if hny was 2:30min long than 50 cr will cross, what is this so if hny is 2 hr long than it will collect 60cr.Hilarious.

@ all the fans of SRK, to collect 45 crores in opening day is a remarkable feat and will take some time to beat that record, so congratulations to all of you. I don’t think this year this record will be broken, all are saying that PK will break that, however, I doubt that. I have a gut feeling that by looking at the trailer, PK will not appeal to mass audience. Also PK has to release in approx 6000 screens to achieve that and that too is impossible.
