Imtiaz Ali’s Highway has done well at the box office. In a statement released to the press, Sajid Nadiadwala, the producer of Highway, declared the film a ‘super hit’.
Statement:
“Highway was always a profitable film, made and marketed at a tight cost and released in select 800 screens only, and the way it has been growing amongst audiences since Friday, it’s turning out to be a huge success for all of us. Hope the love for the movie keeps pouring in, in the next few days.”
According to the makers, the landing cost of the film including print and advertising was Rs 18.25 crore and the revenues earned pre-release from various rights was Rs 15.50 crore. The entire investment was recovered in the first weekend itself.
Highway opened to a reasonably good response, showed healthy growth over its first weekend and collected Rs 22 crore in its first week.
However, the release of Shaadi Ke Side Effects last weekend, affected the business of the film. With three new releases this week, Highway will be running on limited shows at multiplexes.
Overall, Imtiaz Ali’s success-ratio remains rock-solid. Every film of his, except his first (Socha Na Tha) has done well at the box office. Highway is likely to finish with lifetime business of around 28.5 crore net.

I don’t know whether to watch this movie or not. Trailer looks boring. No offense to ARR or his fans:But I didn’t like music either.

It really deserved a ‘HIT’ status. It wasn’t perfect, far from it, but it was a breath of fresh air after so many ‘Masala’ flicks. It was also well directed, well acted, cinematography was brilliant, and Patakha Guddi & Mahi Ve, both the songs were awesome, storyline progression in 2nd half could have been better.
@indicine, if its a hit, then why was hasee toh phasee only above average with 36 crs nett and having almost similar budget to highway? And also hasee toh phasee has more overseas revenue.. Can you justify it?

Next up producers will state movies like Hasee toh and Shaadi Ke.. as superhits.
The budget of the movie is stated, but what about the promotions?
all the above movies were promoted hugely.
Even if you add a minimum of 5-10 cr, even then the movie is above average only.
Also, Hasee toh Phasee again had bigger budget and promotions.
In case of Shaadi Ke, the budget is not mentioned and Vidya and Farhan aren’t cheap, so budget and expectations should be even bigger, while the collections are not.
In short all the above movies have just doing or done average business. Producers can make any wild statements, but that’s far from reality.

@Anupama Music was the soul of this movie…..And it was perfect….Anywayz people have their own opinions…..HIGHWAY is a movie with Soul…..And I suggest Yu dun watch it in near future…..Cause it’s always the first impression for a movie like HIGHWAY that would work……If trailers din click with you…..Movie would never….!!

It’s a Hit?! NO! The movie that cannot gross even as much as it’s budget is supposed to be a FLOP.
Unfortunately, Highway was a big FLOP! It’s budget was 30 crores. Whereas, all it could earn at the box office is just 27 crores. It’s a disaster. Nevertheless, it received mostly negative responses from the critics.
the movie is awesome… so is alia bhatt, randeep and the locations…. never knew india is so beautiful… i think imtiaz should also exploit the beauty of south india…. i am marveled at the beauty of most places in the south… at present imtiaz only seems to be concentration on Kashmir and the pahads….
the scene taken in the film was so amazing to see and both have done superb acting this is really great movie to watch
