Shashank Khaitan’s Badrinath Ki Dulhania opened very well at the box office on Friday. It slowed down a little in the noon at some centres and picked up evening onwards to record the 3rd highest opening day total of 2017.
The film, which has collected Rs 12.25 crore on Day 1, is only behind the collections of way more established stars like Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees – which was in a different league altogether inspite of clash with another big film and Akshay Kumar’s Jolly LLB 2 which is in around the same range as Badrinath Ki Dulhania.
On Saturday, the film has shown good growth in business almost all across the country. Uttar Pradesh, which is in a celebratory holi-mood today after the election results, slowed down a little in the morning, but has shown good growth noon onwards. It’s a film that has been made for the heartland of India and with the extended weekend of Holi, business in UP and Bihar is expected to peak in the next couple of days.
Gujarat has also shown good growth, while Punjab which was affected by rain in some parts yesterday, is also going well. At multiplexes, where there is plenty of potential for growth even at those top-10 cities, business is expected to peak today evening onwards.
The all-India average growth from the theatres we tracked until 1PM, is around 14%.
Badrinath Ki Dulhania is looking at first weekend (3 days) figures of around 43-44 crore. The holiday on Monday for Holi will further help boost business.
