Bachna Ae Haseeno Music Review

Music Review of Bachna Ae Haseeno by Kirti

Music, song and dance is definitely the signature prerequisite for any Bollywood movie and off late Bollywood has chosen to experiment with new genres of music. Bachna Ae Haseeno is one such movie where the music director duo Vishal-Shekhar have tried their luck in experimenting various genres from Lounge to Punjabi Rock. The movies audio most evidently stands out due to the diversity seen in the music. While the title song Bachna ae Haseeno is extremely peppy, songs like Khuda Jaane and Aahista Aahista definitely manage to strike our quixotic chords.

The first song has new comer Shilpa Rao singing in duet with one of India’s most gifted singer, KK. The song has a very melodious and soft tune to it making it very mellow. This is like one of those songs most listeners would love to listen on loop. The lyrics have a lot of thought to it and have been equally distributed among the vocalists. Most significantly, the song completely does justice to the talents of both the singers and at the end of it, their effort seems perfectly adequate.

Lucky boy is one of the songs which seem to have been experimented on. It has singers Raja Haasan, Sunidhi Chauhan and Hard Kaur rendering their voices to this composition. This song is of the club genre and has pretty decent music. Sunidhi Chauhan sounds remarkable and her voice tone suits the lyrics completely. Raja Haasan doesn’t have much to sing but his performance definitely gives a very frisky touch. Hard Kaur’s entry somewhere in between is positively a treat. Her voice compliments Sunidhi Chauhan’s voice and both of them sound enjoyable together. However, the turning point for the song would be its funny lyrics. At first, I tried restraining myself from listening to a track titled “Lucky boy” but after listening to it there has been a change of ideas. This song is not excellent per se but is undeniably spirited and lively. We have heard of the saying, “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” In this case it is, “Don’t judge the song by its name.”

Lucky Ali, the man with an impeccable voice delivers his voice along with Shreya Goshal for another club number titled, “Aahista Aahista”. Lucky Ali is known for his expertise when it comes to music and he portrays this explicably by rendering his voice for ‘Aahista’. This song seems to be extremely plain and simple without any loud music or extra music. It has a very futuristic impression, makes you at least end up tapping your feat if not banging your heads. The lyrics have a very adorable feel to it, cute would be a better word. Over all, it’s a very subtle song with singers of expert talent giving it quite an average shot. Could have been better!

“Jogi Mahi” has two male singers and one female singer viz. exposing their voices to it. The song has a very desi touch to it as the very name suggests. It is a Punjabi song with all the dhol’s and dhamaka prominent. Shekher Ravjiani enjoys the lead and is joined by Sukhwinder Singh half way through. Both of their voices without a doubt clearly pay tribute to the Punjabi genre, thanks to their typical Punjabi accent. The entire song is more like a story being put into a fine tune; the lyrics though mostly in Punjabi are understandable and lucid. Towards the end we get to hear Himani Kapoor rendering her melodious yet full of ‘josh’ voice. So over all this is one of those typical Yash Raj songs found in practically all their movies.

There is another song called “Small town girl” which has Shankher Mahadevan crooning to the tunes of Vishal-Shekher and this definitely rang a bell in my mind, it so very well reminded me of Pretty Woman, previously sung by Mahadevan himself in the move Kal Ho Na Ho. It has a bit of electronic tunes and again has a very futuristic appeal. The lyrics are like a tongue twister and sound very hip. The idea of having many languages in one song has been used again. Just like its predecessors like “pappu cant dance saala”, “pretty woman” etc. ‘Small town girl’ makes use of English with Hindi and Punjabi as well and thus giving it the Punjabi Rock genre. The song can also be tagged as a dance number, but to say, it is the only song in the movie which can be called a dance number exclusively. Shankher Mahadevan’s has previously achieved great accolades by singing songs of this genre and this again, without a doubt, just adds another feather to his cap.

Finally, what can be said about the title song? If I criticized it in any manner it would be an insult to the greatest singer of all times Kishore da. The song has been impeccably remade and the voice and rap rendered by Vishal Dadlani purely deserves two thumbs up. It has been perfectly composed, designed and picturised to attain total viewers interest. Vishal-Shekher have again proved their modern music making abilities by reviving the old “Bachna Ae Haseeno” to this rocking new one.

So therefore in total, this album has everything going for it, but unfortunately doesn’t manage to stand out. There are absolutely no songs to die for but what is most important and evident is that, Music directors as well as the vocalists have given their best and have done justice to the lyrics. We can now surely hope and expect a promising movie. As the old saying goes, “When one thing is good, we can expect the others to be better”.

The track should do extremely well if the movie clicks at the box-office.

So I would go with 3 on 5 for Bachna Ae Haseeno Music

Rating: ★★★☆☆
