Bachna Ae Haseeno Movie Review

Directed by Siddharth Anand of ‘Salaam Namaste’ and ‘Ta Ra Rum Pum’ fame and produced by one of the biggest production houses in Bollywood; Yash Raj Films ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’ stars the hottest couple of the tinsel town Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone along with the sexy Bipasha Basu and the beautiful Minissha Lamba. Bachna Ae Haseeno is Ranbir and Deepika’s second Bollywood movie (after Saawariya and Om Shanti Om) and their first film together.

Great production house, good director and a very interesting star cast; does Bachna Ae Haseeno work?
Before we proceed into the analysis part, let’s take a sneak peak into the story of Bachna Ae Haseeno.

Bachna Ae Haseeno Story

The movie is about Raj (Ranbir Kapoor) and his relationships with the 3 women in his life.

Mahi (Manisha Lamba) is sweet, innocent, romantic and lives in the DDLJ world. She truly believes that she could bump into Raj (Shahrukh Khan’s character in DDLJ) anytime. For her life is nothing but a fairy tale with paths of flower carpets. Radhika (Bipasha Basu) is sexy and smart. A girl of today, Radhika is a struggling actress who is looking to make a mark in the film industry. Gayatri (Deepika Padukone) is a cab driver in Australia who sets her own rules, regulations and doesn’t abide by what the society says or thinks. She also does not believe in marriage either.

Bachna Ae Haseeno revolves around these characters and speaks about the short flings that Raj has with each of the girls and the lessons of love n life that he learns from each one of them.

Bachna Ae Haseeno Review

Bachna Ae Haseeno is a movie for all the guys out there, not that it has nothing in it for the female audience. The guys would easily connect with the male lead character. The other characters too are well etched and easy to identify with.

The movie starts off well, the first half is a romantic comedy with the main lead (Ranbir Kapoor) involved in 3 love stories. The first story with Minissha Lamba is sweet typical teenage romance. Its funny at times and well directed. The second with Bipasha Basu is about a live-in relationship. It’s exactly what most guys seek for, a non committal relationship with a hot woman. The final romance with Deepika, the most important of the three as most of what followed in the second half is a consequence of the Deepika – Ranbir story, isn’t convincing. Overall though, the first half is entertaining.

The second half is emotional (which is okay), a bit too long and very predictable. The execution of the script by the director especially in the second half could have been better. The editing too could have been much crisper. The music and locations, well it’s almost like a world tour with a song in every single location. Two songs stand out, the classic Bachna Ae Haseeno and Khuda Jaane. The cinematography is fantastic; the locales of Australia and Italy have been beautifully captured.

Bachna Ae Haseeno Performances

Ranbir Kapoor stands out with a good performance. He’s talented and has immense potential. He also shares smooches with all three leading ladies, the one with Bipasha was quite passionate. Must say, some guys are real lucky! Bipasha Basu carried her glamorous role with ease. Minissha Lamba was inconsistent, good in parts. Deepika Padukone has nothing to do! In a small role, she does well. Audience who expect more of Ranbir and Deepika on screen will be disappointed but their chemistry was pretty good.

Overall, Bachna Ae Haseeno is a good movie which had potential to be much better. It would garner mixed reactions. Some will just love every bit of it; a few might just hate it and some in between. At the all important box-office, BAH will do much better than God Tussi Great Ho, which for some reason hasn’t been in news even though it stars Salman Khan and Amitabh Bachchan.

Rating: ★★★☆☆

Other Notes – If you have followed the news here, you would be aware that Katrina Kaif was also a part of Bachna Ae Haseeno. Her role was eventually chopped off as the runtime was going well past 3 hours. Am very curious to see what her role in the movie actually was. Lets wait for the DVD, hope they include Katrina’s part in the Deleted Scenes.

God Tussi Great Ho, which also releases with Bachna Ae Haseno has just not been in news. Very strange that Salman Khan was promoting BAH on his popular game show Dus Ka Kum.
The review of God Tussi Great Ho will be up by Friday evening (IST). Be sure to check it out.

Lastly, If you have already seen Bachna Haseeno, vote in the poll below. Be honest with your votes, as it could influence others into watching the movie. • Hi Fathiya,

I never said I didnt like BAH. I saw it yesterday and I thought it was great.

It is SIK that I thought was in bad taste!!!

But BAH rocks completely. I never found myself getting bored at all. Its been a while since an out and out romantic movie was such a pleasure to watch!

    I loved the movie BAH!!

  • Although the movie was not as much awaited as Singh is King…it surely wil sweep u out of your feet by beautiful locales, camera wrk & superb actin by all the stars..concept ws vry diff 4m traditional hindi movies…GenX wil def lyk it…kewl movie MUST WATCH…deserves 4 rating…Ranbir has shown his calibre n dis movie…3 stars 2 luk out 4 nw..SHAHID/IMRAN KHAN/RANBIR…vry talented new comers wil def give khans a run 4 their money…

  • Samir: I saw Saawariya in cinema 3 times ( and that’s my habbit) when I love any movie and find it (interesting) the minimum no. of me to watch is (3 times). I can’t ask u to watch it again ’cause this movie was good only on a big screen and not to watch it thru a c.d. as it portayed night life and was shot indoors.

People are different like colours, when I find a movie very interesting, others find it boring, therefore we differ and fight on websites!

  • Fathiyaa it suprsing that u like SAAWARIYA also, I think u like ranbir kapoor so thats why u r debating to much on this websites, yess he is good looking and a very good actor

  • Sajid: No.. Ranbir is a part of the movie, his performance as a newcomer was so good in Saawariya and he’s cute, loveable, could win everyone’s heart. He was overacting in the last song “Saawariya” but I believe that the actor does what the director asks him to do.

I loved Saawariya and considered as best of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ( he, himslef also considered Saawariya as his best movie) and he’s right, the audience was wrong and didn’t appreciate his good work, as happened for LS2050 which was also a very deserving movie)
I loved it for the following reasons: Excellent direction, cinematography, and shooting indoors which gave the movie a new flavour. I loved the shade of blue and green which u (all) didn’t like! I loved the music, the melody of the songs, Jabse Tere Nenah, Todhri Badmash Hae Tum & Jaane Ja.

I didn’t find it boring at all. If for me was a boring movie, I wouldn’t have gone to cinema 3 times to watch it. As I said, what’s nice for me, might be a boring for u. I love slow songs with good lyrics and meldoies, but my father hates them, my daughter too! See.. how we r a different people!

  • Just from watching, it was okay! Just okay! I expected a lot from yash raj after a string of terrible movies! It kinda let me down, the best part is the one of ranbir and bipasha only, deepika sucked more than minisha, she slightly stiff. The review was fair! Come on yash raj; you can do so much better! Whats happening?

  • Super Flop Movie, cant be a bad movie than this..

Guys do watch the comments coming in scrolls in MTV, its absolutely befitting comments that the movie is such a waste, they are paying homage to the movie like “In the fond memories of BAH”, as if the movie has died even before being born, haha…

I think MTV is right that BAH might break the record in floppers beating RGV Ki AAG. BAH is even worse than that.

  • I think Fatiya u r da biggest losser i have ever seen wat wrong wid u r u a asshole or dumbshit u talk about welcome it was a good movie n y da fuck r u compariong da king Akshay wid a losser like wats his name oh ya Ranbir Da Chomu so just shut up ok

  • Welcome, JTYJN and many other silly movies which I mentioned already in my comments r made for “idiots” like u to watch Ankur, but not for people who’ve brain, such movies won’t satisfy except “shallow people” who never want to think!

And.. didn’t your parents teach u how to talk to others if u want to discuss any issue and show some respect?!!!

If I found Ranbir Kapoor a talented actor ( and everyone found him very talented) and deserves to have good roles, why does it bother u?!! That’s my opinion, and Ranbir’s acting is far better than Akshay Kumar’s acting when he started in bollywood. Akshay’s career started only since few years. He started to win people’s heart only after he did a good role in (Dadkan) before 6 or 7 years as he played a good guy and after he got married and settled down as he was a playboy before marriage.

So Ankur.. if u want people to respect u, do the same, respect others that u get a good feedback from them!

  • Hi Fathiya, remember me in comment on Arbaz-Malaika issue?
Well, I really like ur matured comments u posted here. For liking any movie it depends on different people, of different moods. So we have no rights to stop others watching it. As compared to JTYJN i personally like BAH coz Ranbir acts much more impressively than Imran.
Yeah the story in 2nd half was quite far away from reality n some parts were unnecessary, as well Gayatri-Raj story could have been a little in details.

  • Yes people like Ankur and Shotgun, must be taught simple manners who resort to abusive language to get their message across!! They think it makes them cool but only if they knew that they look like the biggest fools!!! Keep your abusive language at home!!

  • Cybersupam: Hi.. Imran Khan’s acting in JT was just normal, but I have a feeling that he will grow big in future, and after doing some good roles in good movies.
I enjoyed BAH, yes.. it’s quite long but not boring at all, and what Ranbir does in the 2nd half doesn’t happen in the real life, but the director portrayed what’s right to do, therefore I loved the script. In the real life, who’ll visit his ex-girlfriends to apologize for them and tell them that he was wrong? No one does, that’s a fact but the movie is sending it’s message to all the men in this world, that this is the right thing to do. Unfortunately, many people watch movies and never appreciate the messages delivered to them.

I admire this director now ’cause so far he did 3 good movies with 3 different messages for the audience. In Salam Namaste, a message to all the men to face the responsibiltiy when the their girls r pregnant. In Tararampum a message to value your money, save them for the black day and never spend them, waste them on unnecessary stuff, and in this one as I mentioned above. I love meaningful movies.

  • Its really ridiculous to even compare Akshay with Ranbir, even on his early days Akshay was acting personified. He was tagged as the Khiladi of Bollywood with several hits to his name like Khiladi, Mohra & many other movies & to add to all Akshay was no star kid to have easy access to big names directing him or any other advantage this star kids do get. He made a name of himself on his own, he didn’t needed a film to be titled on his father’s, infact he didn’t have one to. Ranbir’s second movie and he trying to boast off his father’s success, that itself is a ridiculous thing. I like those people who make it on their own like Shahrukh, Akshay & all. Akshay was not a trained actor whatever he does on screen comes naturally to him much like SRK, they are called great actors. Akshay’ acting was always delightful throughout his careers right from his early days.

You can compare Ranbir with Imraan, but then also people have already given their verdict. Imraan’s first movie itself is a huge huge hit, whereas Ranbir has got two big flops against his name, that makes it 2 out of 2 flops for Ranbir. Personally i too feel Imraan is immensely talented as his promos looking really good in his next movie KIDNAP. What else you wanna say this stats says it all, they can’t lie, the people won’t lie? Now you can’t always blame the directors or the producers they can’t be wrong every time, people like Sanjay Leela & Yash Raj are big enough to make a movie hit but even that hasn’t worked for Ranbir, ofcourse not to mention the theme & the old song from his dad’s movie can’t do any good either.

Though i can wish the flopstar Ranbir some luck in the future, well if so many favourable things can’t help him get a hit i am sure my wish won’t be able to do much.

    Singh is Kinng rules….
Bachna Ae Haseeno sucks big time!

  • @Fathiya

And yes another thing that you mentioned that Welcome & JTYJN are silly movies. Well see we people all have lots work & we all go thru various stresses in life & we watch movies to get entertained rather than sit, analyse, think on the movie(i think one can do these once someone gets old like after retirement), so these movies brings cheers to us, we get our money valued & gets entertained. Thats why people like these movies & they were super-duper hits, whereas movies like Sawariya(correct me if i got the spelling right coz i havn’t watched even the title of the movie enough times) & BAH are super super flop. And please let the audience decide don’t negate the verdict given by the audiences in terms of these stats in BO collections.

And remember only great actors are able to make people laugh its the toughest acting in the world to do, not any Ranbir can do it.

  • Shail: Forget about Indian movies. Let me give u an example how some people find a movie interesting and others find it boring although it’s a big and a huge success.

Did u see (The Dark Night) a hollywood movie, a batman movie. I’t a successful movie, a blockbuster I assume, some members in my family asked me to watch it, and I did, went to cinema with my daughter who loves these type of movies, superman, spiderman, batman. And believe me, the cinema hall was too full and we thought we’d have a good time.

The movie started and after 30minutes i was feeling very bad, got bored, my daughter too. The movie didn’t have anything new to offer, and we just wanted to leave after watching the 1st half. But other people found it very interesting and loved it.

We can’t convince each other ’cause what’s interesting for u won’t be the same for me. It’s not that I set in my seat and analyze any moive. I was very impressed when I went to cinema to watch JTYJN ’cause I loved the promo and the review on this website encouraged me to do so. But when the movie started and just 10 minutes passed. I had a great feeling that it’s a dissapointing movie. I just found it bad and not interesting and when the movie finished I just told myself: Did people really like this crap?!! I loved only the song Kabhi Kabhi and Smita Patel’s role in the movie ( if u want to know the reason, u’ll find my comments under the review of the movie)

Let me give u another example of how people r different. When I go to watch an indian movie, I can’t wait for any song to start as I love Hindi songs and what I noticed that many Indian audiences leave the theatre and take a break when any song starts!! A movie become a super hit, or a hit, that has many reasons for it, e.g. the movie (Aap Ka Suroor) wasn’t this a hit movie? and why? I’ve the answer ’cause of Himesh Reshamya’s last year songs, Himesh is no good to be an actor ’cause he lacks the look as a hero. His songs only the reason for the success, and the movie was just one of those which u see one time and u forget about after a short while! ( and I don’t like his voice)

Many people found Ranbir Kapoor as a talented actor not because his dad is an actor ’cause he’s (really) a talented boy who lived in a family who r all actors, therefore, he learnt ’cause he had the passion for movies, to be an actor, and he got all the qulaifications for this job, same as Abhishk, his dad and mom r actors, and Hrithik ( his dad was an actor and now a director) that’s very natural that he became an actor, but not all actors’ kids are talented. Why then Ranbir’s sister didn’t join Bollywood? Why Amitab’s daughter didn’t act? Everyone can’t act, even Imraan Khan, his uncle Aamir is a famous actor and now a producer and a director who supported him ( if it wasn’t Aamir, I don’t think he’d had a chance to join bollywood only after killing himself and family just facilitate for them, that’s all).
So, if they have no talent and a zero qualification they won’t make it in Bollywood or Hollywood e.g. Mithun’s son ( just a zero in Bollywood, a failure)
I got no more explanation, and hope that would be clear enough for u to understand.

  • @ fathiya

i think u r talking in the zone of ur own, you didn’t at all understood what was thing we are talking off. And its so baffling what explanation u r giving in there? haha… Are you kidding? And plzz i m not interested in ur story tellings. When in the world i said that you or anyone for that matter, are not entitled to give their opinion? When did i said that different people don’t have different choices and when did i disagreed to the fact that you liked the most unpopular or flop movies? Its all democratic world, nobody is here to stop you from liking or disliking anything. There are people who like Zinc more than Gold, but that doesn’t make Gold’s value less. I was talking of majority & not about abnormalities that might arised out of people’s mind. If out of 100 people 99 are thinking alike and just 1 person who is thinking differently on a particular viewpoint then he/she might be called abnormal.

Mithun’s son might be a 0 for u then, but there will be people who still thinks that he is the best hero. Similarily everyone knows the reality, if u r having a different opinion then…. well u know what i m trying to say.

One or two’s opinions doesn’t count what matters is what majority thinks. A mad person will always remain so despite him thinking that he is not mad, as facts remains facts.

So keep your unidimensional opinions to yourself and don’t try to make a fool out of everyone. People knows whats good & whats not, results & stats shows everything. And that’s what they say that let your work do the talking, and we have all seen Ranbir’s work also Imraan’s & Akshay’s. As their work is doing the talkings for them.

  • Nishant: Well, about LS2050, I don’t like to repeat writing what I loved about it because I already wrote in details and posted many comments. Just read my comments under LS2050 movie review and u will know why.

And which type of movies which I loved, they are many and can’t remember all, but I’ll mention what I remember, old and new together:

Sangam, Aradhna, Amar Prem, Do Raste, Satyam Shivan Sundaram, Jab Jab Phool Kele, Heer Ranja, Sony Mahiwal ( I loved mostly the songs of Sohni Mahiwal) Betaab, Aina ( I loved this movie Aina, I haven’t seen any story like this in any other languages), Aap Ki Kasam for Rajesh Khanna.
Veer Zarah, Dil Se, Mohabbetain, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Asoka, Kal Hona Ho, Anjam, Deewana, Saagar, Baghbaan, Kasoor, Aiteraz, Fiza, Ek Doojeh ke liye, Qayamat se Kayamat Tak, Refugee, Bandit Queen, Koyla, Beta, Virasat
Jodha Akbar, Krrish, Dhoom 2, Black, Hum Tum, Kasoor, Saathiya, Kalyug, Zinda, Kaal, The Legend of Baghat Singh, Waqt, Mujse Shadi Karogi, Masti, No Entry, Bhool Bulaya, Mujse Dosti Karogi, Fana, Aamir, Black & White
Parzania, Tararampum, Umrao Jaan, Sarkar (I & II) Taare Zamin Par, Zindigi Rocks & a pakistan movie (Khuda kie Liye) including the latest movies which I mentioned earlier)

I said I love meaningfull movies, but in addition, I love also some comedy and thriller too.

  • Nishant: I have a list in my p.c. for best movies which helped me to mention some more and they’re as follows::

Omkara, Kabul Express, Ankahee, Pher Melenge, Apne, Devdas, Gangster, Kisna, Paheli, Chakde India, Swades, Dil Hai Tumara, Kiya Kehna, Meh Ho Na, Khuda Gawah, Khoon Bari Mang, Intehaa, Lagaan, Darna Mana Hai, Bewafa, Virudh, Paap, Ek Hasina Thi, Dil Chata hai, Murder, Bend it Like Pekhan, Mansoon Wedding, Astitva, Raja Hindustani, (Pukar: for Anil Kapoor & Madhuri) Bhoot, Lava.
Chalte Chalte, Parineeta, Kabhi Kabhi, Sharabi, Daar, Bobby, Prem Rog
Silsila. ( and 3 more, my favourite movies for Shabana Azmi: Arth, Masoom & Bahavna)

I think I’ve listed for u 90% of the movies which I found them good, and I’m sure that I missed some as they are many, and can’t remember them all.

  • Nishant: U mentioned that SIK sucks too, but, honestly, I enjoyed watching Singh is Kinng. I never loved Akshay Kumar’s comedy movies, but SIK is a good comedy and a good direction/production too, he made me laugh as a simple sikh, but “Welcome” a meaningless movie ( I loved the song welcome only) it wasn’t so funny. We, Bahraini people, say when we don’t like a movie, it’s (Kachra)

I remembered some more movies which I liked: Cheeni Cum, Pyaar Tune Kiya Kiya, Nishabd, Saaya, Monna Bhai ( the 2 parts) and Raaz.

  • ok movie….one timer…nhng great.first half was gud…….
fathiya aunty why dont u undrstand ppl here dont have n probs wid movie.bt its U.y dont u jst go n si in ur toilet n smell it…..n keep ur views n stories to urself.

  • I saw the movie again today, with my family. They all enjoyed it, not only them, most of the people in the cinema were laughing at the funny scenes and were having a good time.
It’s just a good movie, I loved it.
