Ajay Devgn is one of the few actors in the industry who has constantly tried to raise the bar. After Shivaay last year, the actor is all set to return in a historical drama, titled ‘Taanaji: The Unsung Warrior’.
Ajay took to Twitter to announce the film that will see him play the role of Subedar Taanaji Malusare, who fought alongside Chatrapathi Shivaji Maharaj.

“Tanaji is famously known for the Battle of Sinhagad in 1670. At Shivaji’s request, he pledged to recapture the fortress of Kondana near Pune. According to legend, he received the summons while at his son’s wedding, and immediately left the festivities. Tanaji and his troops were said to have scaled the fort with the help of domesticated monitor lizards (gorpad in Marathi), to whom they were said to tie ropes and sent crawling up to the top of the ramparts. Tanaji’s pet ghorpad (Yashwanti) purportedly climbed the ramparts after two failed attempts. Tanaji and his men then climbed the fort in pitch darkness. He and his men recaptured the fort from Udaybhan Rathod, fort keeper of Jai Singh I. This monitor lizard story is disputed among historians. “Gorpade” is a common surname amongst Marathas and it is likely that one of the first people to scale the fort was named “Gorpade””
“A fierce combat took place between Tanaji and Udaybhan. Udaybhan managed to rid Tanaji of his shield, but Tanaji fought on by tying a cloth over one of his hands and using it to ward off Uday Bhan’s sword attacks. Despite a lengthy fight, Tanaji was killed in battle, and Shivaji renamed the fort from Kondana to Sinhagad in his honor. Per legend, Shivaji’s words after hearing about the demise of Tanaji were Gad ala pan Sinha gela(“although the fort was captured a lion was lost”)”
The film, directed by Om Raut, is scheduled for theatrical release in 2019. The date hasn’t been announced.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali is idiot. He lost the chance to make modern day classic like MUGAL-E-AAZAM. He committed big mistake by adding song PINGA. Tried to add typical DEVDAS masala. It was totally unnecessary. There was lot of drama in Bajorao’s family. He just focused around love story which was glorified beyond expectation. Bajirao fought more than 40 war and never lost. Lots of happening in Shanivar Wada at that time.
Gad aala pan sinh gela ( won fort but lost the lion ) . Very very excited to such film . Yudh jeetne ke liye apne bete ki shaadi rukva di thi. Jai Bhavani Jai Shivaji . Shivaji maharaj ki jai .

After Baahubali & BM Success, everybody are doing war movies. Do something Different bollywood. But Ajay keeps on making different movies, he made Shivaay last year & now he has Baadshaho & Golmaal 4 which looks like a success too. So Ajay is coming back with a Bang!

I must say Ajay Sir is risk taker.Shivay failure but it doest’nt affect him. SRK also tried but failed, after that SRK playing safe. Hates off the Ajay sir for this. This is why I respect AD Singham
What actually do you want to say? After the failure of Shivaay, Ajay come up with commercial movies Baadshaho & Golmaal 4. If he work this movie right after Shivaay then your claimed will be acceptable. Everyone is comparing with SRK, it seems like SRK is a parameter to measure other actors/stars’s up-down-taking risks- versatility in their careers.

I am really happy to see Ajay Devgn doing this movie . In this decade Ajay has made some terrible choices such as Rascals, Tezz, Himmatwala and AJ . On paper this film looks risky but I am glad Ajay is investing his money in this project . This film is a big gamble it has the potential to be a massive blockbuster or a massive failure . Screenplay, Direction and VFX will play a very important role . I remember when we were in 4th standard we had a chapter on Taanaji Malusare and his bravery . It is great to see Ajay and Om Raut paying homage to a brave son who sacrificed his life for his friend, king and soil . I think this film will release on Diwali 2019 as Diwali has been a lucky period for Ajay and this film needs a solo release on festival period because of big budget and massive scale .
