Ajay Devgn is one of the few actors in the industry who has constantly tried to raise the bar. After Shivaay last year, the actor is all set to return in a historical drama, titled ‘Taanaji: The Unsung Warrior’.
Ajay took to Twitter to announce the film that will see him play the role of Subedar Taanaji Malusare, who fought alongside Chatrapathi Shivaji Maharaj.

“Tanaji is famously known for the Battle of Sinhagad in 1670. At Shivaji’s request, he pledged to recapture the fortress of Kondana near Pune. According to legend, he received the summons while at his son’s wedding, and immediately left the festivities. Tanaji and his troops were said to have scaled the fort with the help of domesticated monitor lizards (gorpad in Marathi), to whom they were said to tie ropes and sent crawling up to the top of the ramparts. Tanaji’s pet ghorpad (Yashwanti) purportedly climbed the ramparts after two failed attempts. Tanaji and his men then climbed the fort in pitch darkness. He and his men recaptured the fort from Udaybhan Rathod, fort keeper of Jai Singh I. This monitor lizard story is disputed among historians. “Gorpade” is a common surname amongst Marathas and it is likely that one of the first people to scale the fort was named “Gorpade””
“A fierce combat took place between Tanaji and Udaybhan. Udaybhan managed to rid Tanaji of his shield, but Tanaji fought on by tying a cloth over one of his hands and using it to ward off Uday Bhan’s sword attacks. Despite a lengthy fight, Tanaji was killed in battle, and Shivaji renamed the fort from Kondana to Sinhagad in his honor. Per legend, Shivaji’s words after hearing about the demise of Tanaji were Gad ala pan Sinha gela(“although the fort was captured a lion was lost”)”
The film, directed by Om Raut, is scheduled for theatrical release in 2019. The date hasn’t been announced.

Devgn should not just do PR talks to gain commercial success, but truly make something great. If not the scale of Bahubali, atleast at the scale of BajiraoMastani, cuz a warrior like Tanaji deserves more more.’

Indicine…. what bar did he raise. The film not even started yet just like you called Tubelight as Juggernaut before its poster nor trailer, so how you can be so sure about it. I know you don’t like any south movies. It was Bahubali who raise the bar, Bollywood is still about Rom Com and obsession with love aka PYAAR. Research and prepare before you type anything.

@Rohan you dont tell Indicine what to say what not too. They aint fools to make such statement. Who had the guts to use his money and make a masive movie like Shivaay unfortunately was a victim of critics bashing if not the movie eas an eye opener,single screen dependance , critics prey,controvery and no popular face except Ajay yet it collected about 100 crs. What they mean by raising the bar means he has done some steller performances and invovlment in the industry excellence and innovations.

As a lay human i would love my idol to be recognized as a Great actor as you said, Bar raiser ,2 national awards and 3rd most successful actor based on movie verdicts(BOI) than a mere title superstar. Even a kid knows being called Great with 3rd most succesful actor (boi) consistency for 26 years still big producers lining up for his signature is enough to be given that tiny status “superstar”. After many years i will be proud to hear my idol was a Great actor who raised hindi cinema even according to wikipedia than an ordinary he was a superstar! A project has been just announced and so many negative comments without any reason. Fail to understand it. Something which is expected from blind haters only. Wishing Ajay to deliver a huge grosser with Golmaal Again. Not that he needs anything to prove but that should be good enough to shut up some of his haters.

I think Ajay Aamir and Akshay(esp of recent) have done some real risky movies some did not do well @ box office but memorable and hall of fame verdicts. Hrithik too tried for Guzaarish too though did not do well but a memorable role too.
