2015 release ’Welcome Back’ and this year’s ‘Housefull 3’ have quite a lot in common and yet there are small differences that can make a big difference at the box office:
- Welcome Back released a week after ‘Phantom’ and a week before ‘Hero’. Housefull 3 had no major competition, neither the week before or after and it also released during the extremely successful Post IPL period.
- Welcome Back – 3200 screens vs Housefull 3 – 3700 screens.
- Both belonged to a popular comedy franchise. Welcome was probably is a little more popular at smaller centres, because the first film had tremendous repeat value – especially on television.
- Welcome Back didn’t have a major star, while Housefull 3 has a established solo star in Akshay Kumar.
- Welcome Back was the longer film – 152 minutes (2 hours 32 minutes), while Housefull 3’s runtime was 132 minutes (2 hours 12 minutes).
- The budget of both films are similar, with Housefull 3 being the slightly more expensive film. But Housefull 3 has performed very well overseas.
At the end of Week 1, Housefull 3 has collected Rs 80.1 crore while Welcome Back collected Rs 74.02 crore. The difference between the first week collections of the two films is Rs 6.08 crore.
If Housefull 3 follows a similar trend as Welcome Back, it’ll finish with net box office collections of less than 110 crore. But apart from the disadvantage of the ‘Ramzan’ period, Housefull 3 faces no competition at the box office.
If Housefull 3 adds around 16-17 crore in its second weekend, the film has a chance of getting close to a total of Rs 120 crore – which looks like the best case scenario for the film from here.

The collections of a John Abraham starrer and an Akki starrer are pretty much similar (though later one got huge advantage of post IPL release).

To all those akshay kumar hater open the calendar n check on 5th sep there is a partial holiday on 11 th September there is a holiday in mahrastra for a festival called pola and on 17 th September holiday for ganesh chaturthi so no partial holiday advantage to HF3 in its 2 week.

@Maya, if you have something called brain than you should know that MD is clashing with Rustam and also it releases it on normal Friday which is a working days. tell your star whoever he is, to clash his movie with other movie and on normal Friday, I challange, if he can give 25 cr opening or not. Hrithik has already done it once when Bang bang opened with 27 cr despite clash. So it’s my open challenge.
