Vidhu Vinod Chopra Films – Celebration

As a tribute to mark the completion of three decades in the film industry, Vinod Chopra Films in association with PVR Cinemas have organized “30 Years of Striving in Cinema- A Festival of Vinod Chopra Films” between March 29 – April 4, 2012.

The Festival commenced the day before yesterday (29th March) with the screening of the 1989 hit Bollywood film, Parinda, Directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra himself.

The Red Carpet premiere of the Oscar nominated movie was indeed a star studded event with several big names present including L.K Advani, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Mukesh Ambani, Neeta Ambani, Anil Kapoor, Manisha Koirala, Sanjay Dutt, Anupam Kher, Jackie Shroff, Anu Mailk and many more. Sharman Joshi, the lead actor of ‘Ferrari Ki Sawaari’ was also present for the opening night.

The festival is about celebrating the love of cinema and this was clearly showcased in the event yesterday with many of the prominent personalities expressing their love for Vinod Chopra Films. Mukesh Ambani acknowledged that Vidhu Vinod Chopra is a genius and his best is yet to come. L. K. Advani also expressed his love for cinema and added that Vinod Chopra Films is an integral part of entertainment & how Vinod Chopra Films make India proud. Dr. Farooq Abdullah also recalled the days of Mission Kashmir and added that Vinod Chopra Films always have a learning message.

Day 2 of Vinod Chopra Film Festival ‘In Conversation with Cast & Crew’ turned out to be a great surprise with the star cast of ‘Munnabhai MBBS and Lage Raho Munnabhai’. Vinod Chopra along with RajKumar Hirani, Sanjay Dutt, Dia Mirza and other supporting cast of the Munnabhai Films came together to talk about the film.

The conversation was moderated by Sriram Raghavan who seemed pretty intrigued with Vinod Chopra films. The evening started off with Raj Kumar Hirani and Sriram Raghavan sharing some of their college memories which made everyone in the audience warm and happy.

Boman Irani and Arshad Warsi surprised everyone with their entry. Rajkumar Hirani spoke about conceiving the idea behind both the Munnabhai series. He also spoke about how he came up with the idea of hallucinating Gandhiji in the movie. Gandhiji was constantly remembered throughout the conversation. Dia Mirza added her inputs and kept complimenting the magic of Vidhu Vinod Chopra Films.

Boman Irani also expressed his love for both the movies and added that the script made him teary from his heart. Vinod Chopra even said that he did not expect the term ‘Gandhigiri’ to become such a huge rage, as he had just replaced ‘Gundagiri’ with ‘Gandhigiri’.

On a whole, the evening was magical as the stars were clearly smitten and struck remembering the magic of Munnabhai, Circuit and Gandhiji.

1. Sanjay Dutt was initially offered the role of ‘Zaheer’ (Jimmy Shergill) before Munnabhai.
2. Many scenes from both Munnabhai MBBS and Lage Raho Munna Bhai were actually taken from real life incidents.
3. Rajkumar Hirani is from theatre, he believes that ‘Theatre is the best way to hone skills’.
