Veer Box Office Updates

The trade had huge expectations from Veer and as of today, the Salman Khan starrer directed by Anil Sharma has managed to live upto it.

As we all know by now, business at multiplexes all over India was on the lower side (30-40%) right from Day 1 (Friday). Monday witnessed a further crash and the film has been rejected at the plexes. Collections down south are disastrous, business in two key centers in Karnataka – Bangalore and Mangalore – is way below expectations.

But what’s heartening is the fact that, the target audience of Veer, have taken to the film big time. Business at B and C centers in India is strong and the trending is pretty good.

Collections were strong on Friday, followed by a minor dip on Saturday, picked up again with Sunday recording the best collections for the weekend. Weekdays were always going to be crucial and the film has sustained well – Monday witnessed an expected dip in collections, but business on Republic day  (Tuesday) was record breaking, similar to the boost that Wanted received on its first Monday.

Below are the day to day collections of Veer

  1. Friday – 7 crores
  2. Saturday – 6 crores
  3. Sunday – 7.5 to 8 crores
  4. Monday – 3 crores
  5. Tuesday – 6.5 crores

5 day total – approx 31 crores.

Week 1 is expected to be somewhere between 34 – 36 crores.

What remains to be seen in the next few days

  • Can Veer sustain and match its Monday collections during the remaining two weekdays i.e today and tomorrow?
  • Will the release of Rann and Ishqiya affect its collections? Unlikely to, since both releases this week are targeted mainly at the multiplex audience.

he said on 25th jan tht veer gona average in mutiplexes
    bt 26th report is gud
after 26th veer gona avg. in multiplexes.

  • hay guys i was just checking Wikipedia their they told that Veer collected 72 cr gross in India till 31.02.10. if we calculate it will be around 42-43cr net. so weekend is around 9-10cr ,which is not at all bad in any circumstances.

as collections are largely 4m single screen so the DS share will be around 23-24cr , which means Veer is a hit movie

    What u says guys??????????????

According to Eros, Veer grossed Rs. 32.5 crore net in its first week in India and Rs. 9 crore overseas, giving it a one week total of Rs. 41 crore.[2] The film did well on single screens in Rajasthan and other areas in north India. However, according to IBOS, Veer grossed only Rs. 60 crore domestically in actual collections.

The movie will be a profit of around Rs. 15 crore for Eros but some distributors will make back their money. The movie will end up with Rs. 80–85 crore net total in India with a distribution share of Rs. 40–45 crore making it blockbuster fair.

  • dont understand why all critics take a fiction work like a real story if something is being done for entretainment it shuld be taken in the same way.the aam aadmi goes to watch a movie just for having fun not to critise. iam not a great fan of salman like critics.he is not as perfect as mr perfectionist aamir he is not as great actor as mr king khan, but he is honest,no one was able to look like a VEER in bollywood, he is the dominater who rules in the heart of his fan.the man takes the responciblity of drawing a big gathering to the movie.the man who converted a average movie into a appriciatable movie directed by anil sharma who is not counted as great director, the man who is loved by the governs did a superlative job 2 make a big impact.i would request critics not 2 stop people 2 go for this WORRIER who is fighiting for his country. whose dada’s sword is made for cutting the heads off enimies.already u gys huv usurped 10 millions collection of vr by writing dwn.CHERS VR N Fans jay ho allah hafij

  • Q.The Media Has Really Gone Against Veer? Is It Really A Flop

    Monday 1st February 2010 09.00 IST
    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network
    A. No its not a flop as per Indian theatrical business. Distributors of many circuits will make money while Eros will lose money and today its very rare that the whole chain makes money. Overall the Indian theatrical business will be Average/Above Average.

    Veer still going strong

A film embroiled in controversy often sees more business than a film that’s not had one, what with audiences turning up to watch the film to figure Salman Khan during the shoot of Veer More Pics

And this seems to have worked for Veer too, the Salman-starrer period flick that saw better occupancy on Sunday, than the last week, in various cinema halls in Jaipur. The film ran into rough waters on Saturday morning when a representative group of the Rajput community, Karni Sena, protested against some dialogues used in the film that they feel are derogatory to Rajputs.

But apparently, after the protests on Saturday, Veer saw more footfalls on Sunday in at least some of the movie halls in the city. Says Vikramaditya Maitreya, unit manager of Inox Vaibhav, where members of Karni Sena carried out protests against the film, “We have registered nearly 30 percent increase in the occupancy on our shows on Sunday, after the controversy sprang up. But I would also attribute the higher footfalls to the weekend.” Adds Ujjwal Srivastava, manager of First Cinema, “Since Veer didn’t witness a great opening, we were expecting a dip of 20 per cent occupancy in the second week. But surprisingly, the occupancy has gone up by 15 percent on all our shows on Sunday. I would attribute this to the controversy and the protests surrounding it. I think people are intrigued about the issue and the scenes that led to the controversy.” But there are some who say that the footfalls have remained unaffected, post the controversy.

Ashish Sharma, team leader operations, Entertainment Paradise, opines, “The controversy hasn’t changed the level of occupancy at all because in my opinion, in case of films, the word-of-mouth matters a lot. As the film isn’t a runaway hit, even the controversy can’t attract the audiences at this stage. And new films are also on from this Friday, and people are thinking twice before buying the tickets.” Similarly Vishal Kapur, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Fun Cinema observes, “Because of the ruckus created by the Karni Sena in our property, we had to cancel two morning show on Saturday. But police then provided protection and now things are back to normal. But the numbers don’t show any significant change in the occupancy. It is pretty normal.” However, on conditions of anonymity a source at Fun Cinema says, “Any publicity is good publicity. So this one has also worked in favour of the film and the occupancy has gone up because of increase in curiosity among Jaipurites about the movie. Usually, a film that has a slow start doesn’t see a rise in occupancy in the second week. But this has.”
