‘Tubelight’ has flopped at the domestic box office and Salman Khan has failed for the first time this decade during Eid. The film failed to show the kind of growth that it needed on the big holiday for Eid. It has collected Rs 83 crore in 4 days at the box office, with the lowest collections coming on the Eid holiday.
The circuits and centres that were affected by Razman showed good growth on Monday, but business witnessed major falls at places where the impact of Eid was limited over the weekend. The film could collect around 110-115 crore by the end of its first week and the second weekend will decide whether the film can go on to become the highest Hindi grosser of the year.
The struggle for a film like ‘Tubelight’ during Eid to easily beat a 132-crore grosser like ‘Raees’ has sent shock-waves within the industry. It also shows the extremely unpredictable side of film business, as most in the trade were expecting it to comfortably cross the 100 crore mark by the end of the Eid holiday on Monday.
Meanwhile, Salman’s golden run during Eid has finally come to an end after 6 consecutive box office blockbusters. Between 2010 to 2016, the megastar had 6 Eid releases – Dabangg, Bodyguard, Ek Tha Tiger, Kick, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Sultan – and almost all of them went on to be record-openers and major box office grossers.
His latest release, directed by the same man (Kabir Khan) who gave him his biggest grosser and arguably his career-best film (Bajrangi Bhaijaan), is also likely to give him his biggest failure since ‘Veer’ in January 2010.
The consistency that Salman has shown over the years – making even the most mediocre and critically rejected films, into major commercial successes at the box office – by his sheer presence and stardom, is incredible to say the least.
Questions over his stardom are now being raised by the very people who hailed him as the top star not too long ago – which also goes to show that the only thing that matters for the film industry and trade is the last Friday – even if it is for a star who carried two out of his last three films over the 300 crore mark.

@indicine: Y u r becoming so weak?? Just Since so many haters of n actor r criticising on his failure, u simply should not write like this. Being a box-office expert from these many years i did not expect this from u qtn a stars stardom With just one flop. If u really want to test his stardom (only stardom) make the same film with the same direction same music sme trailer same treatment just with any other hero and then release on same day. Then think about the opening . It would not even cross 15 cr. Tube light has flopped miserably bcz it was a bad film that too with the content that doesn’t cater to core salman fans . It was clear at the time of trailer release itself. So it failed. Doesn’t apply this failure to salman credit. The problem here is that salman has set the benchmark very high with his consistency from 7 yrs that people cnt afford his singld failure
The reason why questions will be raised on Salman Khans stardom is only because of the ridiculously high expectations from the trade as well as people who follow box office..before the release of the teaser if u say that it will become the highest grosser of the year and the June month as well in just 4- 5 days then its understood but after the makers put forth their resources people should have been more cautious while making predictions..
Lifetime predictions of 300 crore is fine because if the content clicks then it is possible but the opeNing predictions and the expectations as well should have been in limitations.. we must understand that this is the most risky salman khan film of this decade..pressurizing him to deliver the opening numbers as high as his mass entertainers is foolishness..If one must never underestimate anyone then one must never overestimate the other also..21 crore is an excellent number for Tubelight just like 19 crore was a strong opening for Fan but just because these films feature two big superstars these numbers look mediocre..
A film like Tiger Zinda Hai will clear all the doubts and show that salman is still the biggest superstar currently..A 100 crore weekend is expected as of now but lets see what the makers put forth before the release of the film.
