When it was announced that Aamir Khan would no longer be the brand ambassador of Incredible India, it was received with criticism from different parts of the country.
Defending the government’s move, the secretary of Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), Amitabh Kant said Aamir Khan’s remarks on intolerance damaged the brand identity of the country.
Speaking as the chief guest of the 36th convocation ceremony of the National Institute of Desgin, Amitabh Kant, who played a key role in the campaign, said, “People will come to India and tourist flow will increase only if the brand ambassador of Incredible India promotes India as incredible India. But if he says India is intolerant, he is surely not working as a brand ambassador of India”
“People will not come to the nation after listening to these words. Ambassador has to promote the brand, not destroy the brand”
Aamir’s removal as brand ambassador comes after the superstar said that his wife Kiran Rao had asked if they should move out of the country. Aamir said, his wife fears for the safety of his children. The actor had also said there is growing intolerance in the country.
Aamir’s contract as the brand ambassador of Incredible India wasn’t renewed.
This is getting too much . Aamir’s contact expired and it was not renewed because of obvious reasons . But rather than appointing a New Brand Ambassador we should not talk about Aamir again and again . He was part of the campaign for 10 Years and now somebody will replace him which is natural . I hope we get the new Ambassador as soon as possible because i am tired of such statements again and again .

What is this Incredible India brand ambassador hoopla. Aamir was deserving for that campaign until he commented about Intolerance. Aamir for me wasn’t the brand ambassador of that campaign from that day. Everything happening now is just a formality. How practical we are now but Marketing can’t be done by someone who suspect the product/brand who he/she marketing. Simple rule.

@Our88 – What do you mean by “to hell with tourism”? Thousands of people survive on income coming from tourism. More than that, when a brand ambassador makes a bad statement about the brand he is endorsing, people listening to him believe the message more. Over and above all this, Aamir simply insulted India which is simply not acceptable. India has seen and will see many more Aamir Khans. Neither he is unique nor India has gotten anything from Aamir. Aamir has earned a lot from India and Indians. If not anything else, he needs to show some respect to India/Indians
