Akshay Kumar’s ‘Toilet Ek Prem Katha’ has beaten the lifetime collections of ‘Jolly LLB 2’, to become the 4th highest grosser of the superstar. The film will now chase the lifetime totals of his 2016 films ‘Airlift’ and ‘Rustom’. The ultimate record though is that of ‘Rowdy Rathore’ which Akshay has been chasing since 2012.
‘Toilet Ek Prem Katha’ needs around 16 crore to beat the lifetime business of ‘Rowdy Rathore’ and become the highest ever grosser for Akshay Kumar. By doing so, the film will also beat Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Raees’ to become the highest grosser of the year so far.
The trend of ‘Toilet EPK’ is similar to ‘Airlift’ last year and better than films like ‘Jolly LLB 2’ and ‘Rustom’. So depending on how the film holds in the third weekend when it’ll face competition from quite a few films, ‘Toilet EPK’ could get to 135-140 crore lifetime. If it falls in Week 3, it’ll wrap at 130 crore.
Check out the comparison between all Akshay films since 2016. We are not including ‘Housefull 3’ because that film did not trend well Week 2 onwards. All other films have carried good word-of-mouth and sustained even after a good weekend at the box office.
