Tamasha has under-performed on its opening day at the box office. The film has collected Rs 10.87 crore on Friday, which is the 11th highest opening day of 2015. The opening day of Tamasha is lower than Hollywood films like ‘Fast and Furious 7’ and ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’.
The trailer and music received a mixed response, but given the fact that the film was directed by Imtiaz Ali (Jab We Met, Rockstar) and featured big stars like Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone in the lead, Tamasha was expected to take a better start at the box office.
Unfortunately, Tamasha has only worked at metro city multiplexes. At smaller cities and towns, the occupancy was low throughout the day. Business at single-screens was pretty much a washout on Day 1. A wise decision by the makers to give the film a very limited single-screen release.
The fate of Tamasha will be dependent on how it performs on Saturday. A big growth of 30-40% would ensure a 40 crore plus opening weekend, giving the film a decent chance of recovering costs.
At centres we tracked on Saturday morning, the growth hasn’t come. In fact, at a few centres, the morning show occupancy was lower than Friday. Evening / night shows will be crucial.
Ranbir Kapoor’s fan-following has dropped after 3 back-to-back debacles in the form of ‘Besharam’, ‘Roy’ and ‘Bombay Velvet’. If ‘Tamasha’ under performs at the box office, his career slump will be comparable to Hrithik Roshan after the success of ‘Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai’. Ironically, Ranbir hit the peak of his career with ’Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ and since then it has been a free fall.
With the much-delayed ‘Jagga Jasoos’ scheduled to release next, Ranbir and his fans would be hoping that the film with Rajkumar Hirani goes on floors as soon as possible.

Ranbir’s acting in this film is outstanding better than Akshay’s acting in all films.

Well the target audience was limited. And that was the risk. If your film is not for masses and its for a particular kind of audience and when even that target audience gives mixed WOM then its trouble for the makers. Thats what exactly what has happened.
Even Rockstar was for similar for the target audience but it receveived average status at box office due to magic of songs of AR Rahman. Rockstar music still is his best in maybe a decade or so. Thats what helped the film.
Also many quoted saying award winning performance of Run-Beer. I just wanna Shut the Hell up man. It is so similar to Rockstar and Wake up sid. Just a combo. Nothing fresh I would say. Yes he acts well but he acts similar. Same Immaturity as it was in Wake up sid, Same screaming as it was in Rockstar. And Also his Don act similar to Bunny’s part of YJHD. Deepika shines more in poorly written role. She is almost missing in 2nd half but she still is only plus in this movie. Infact I got the feeling of KattiBatti where Imran’s role was so big and Kangana a better actor had such a small role. In both these films the similarity is that Kangana and Deepika both are better actors than their heroes in their film but their role is very short. Also to get an award your movie needs at-least above avg or semi-hit status (i.e. commercial success) which this film doesn’t looks like to achieving and should finish with FLOP status.
Run-Beer fans still can be proud that their hero is best among the group of Flop actors.
The group consists of Abhishek Bachan, Imran Khan, Tushar, Uday, Harman etc etc. Yes he is their leader. The FLOP Group.

I dunno why so many ppl are criticizing RK for no apparent reason. He is a very good actor and has everything required to be a superstar. He is just going through a bad phase. He needs one right script and right director to regain his touch.

Who told you that there is misfit cast in Sanjay Dutt biopic? Did you see Ranbir’s look? Did Hirani invite you on the sets and discussed? let me tell you something, Rajkumar Hirani is a brand in himself. He could have taken any actor to play the lead in Sanjay Dutt’s biopic but he chose Ranbir kapoor for a reason, that guy is a genius. And what did you say ADHM is a rom-com so it’ll flop? Where do you live? In villages? If you want to see Ranbir Kapoor’s fan following then have a look in the metros. He just needs right director and when it comes to romance genre, it can’t get any bigger than Karan Johar, a brand name in romance. Do you even know who Karan Johar is and what’s his track record as a director? You are making a joke of yourself dude.

YJHD was success despite average film because RK comming after back 2 back good films Rockstar n barfi plus music was chatbuster where before Tamasha Rk gave craps disaster besarm bv that makes the difference. Still Tamasha isn’t a bad film either but rk earn respect with Tamasha which he lost even it become success. I think ADHM will be the relauch of Ranbir karan johar as director plus Pritam music

Exactly what I was saying in the other post. It should have done better. It’s not bad but look at the big names in the film. Considering all their hype it should have done better, it was a solo release
why did imtiaz ali made a movie with ranbir kapoor with the budget of 75cr? i dont understand this. if i have ranbir i would make a movie with 5cr to make some money out of it because he has no starpower
Ranbir is not a big star. Just one or two films success never make a star big. Ranbir doesn’t hv the star power to give a bumper opening mainly after back to back flops. Only HR and Khans have that. This film had high expectation due to the lead couple and Imtiaz. Hope it will do good business over the weekend so that Iit becomes a hit.
Some people are spreading so much negativity around it, but come on guys ! After three flops from Ranbir and mixed trailer/soundtrack 10.8 cr is pretty decent. This film was never expected to do much more than that on its opening day ! Only 2100 screens and a niche audiance, so the result is average neither good nor bad. Let’s wait and watch for this weekend collections before talking.
