Taarak Mehta passes away at 87

Acclaimed writer, humorist and playwright Taarak Mehta passed away after prolonged illness in Ahmedabad, Gujarat on Wednesday (today). He was 87.

His family, as per his wishes, intends on donating his body to science.

Taarak Mehta is renowned for his Gujarati column ‘Duniya Ne Undha Chasma’, which was the inspiration behind the popular television show ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’.

He has also written humorous columns, which first appeared in ‘Chitralekha’ more than four decades ago 1971.

In 2015, the Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian award.
