Star kids don’t get enough credit for their success: Ranbir Kapoor

Nepotism has been the topic of debate in the last few months and Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor, the grandson of Raj Kapoor, was one of the many actors to give his point of view.

The actor said ‘star kids’ don’t get enough credit for their success in the industry – which is true because the likes of Abhishek Bachchan, Uday Chopra and several other actors, have failed inspite of getting a platform and the chance to work under some of the biggest directors in the industry.

Ranbir talked about the infamous nepotism debate on comedy group All India Bakchod’s ‘AIB Podcast’.

Tanmay Bhatt introduced Ranbir by saying “Our guest today comes from the family of Prithvi Raj Kapoor, Raj Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, Randhir Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Karisma Kapoor”

He then asked “My question to you Ranbir is do you believe nepotism exists in Bollywood?”

Ranbir replied “I am a ‘disarming’ product of it” while pointing to the slogan on his shirt, which read ‘disarming’.

“Of course it exists. I’m sitting here next to you guys (because of nepotism). I have a simple take on nepotism: I believe that my great-grandfather worked hard to give his children a platform, and so on and so forth,” Ranbir said.

“I became an actor because of my family, and because I got the opportunity, and the thing is you don’t really get credit for your success because everyone just looks down upon your success” he added.

Ranbir, one of the most talented actors that the industry has seen in the last few years, was recently seen in ‘Jagga Jasoos’.

  • An important article is waiting to be posted here today @indicine. It’s Jagga Jasoos Monday box office collection. Am having so much fun …..

  • @Indicine where is the monday update of JJ?? Hearing its gone below 4 crore. Fate has been sealed i guess!! Now can we have an article of how much of a disaster it is compared to Tubelight!!! Still cant believe 125 crore budget movie only caters to 5 to 6 cities

  • Out of the Genuine 6 Superstars in the country 4 are products of Nepotism.

    Aamir
    Salman
    Ajay
    Hrithik.

    Outsiders

    SRK
    Akshay

Now tell me was it Nepotism or actually the 4 superstars had their special talents.
Aamir classy actor perfect almost always.
Salman is charismatic not so good in acting but his charisma and offscreen attentions made him a heartthrob.
Ajay what can we say 2 National awards and various expertly acted movies gives him his appreciation.
Hrithik has the talent and like Salman has the charisma but to be honest he is a phenomenal actor.
So i think these products of bollywood have answered those notions already.

Sunny Aamir Salman Ajay Karishma Hrithik Kareena (established Superstars male&female) Ranbir maybe Varun Alia (next generation superstars if all goes well) should all be answering critics with this song below?

    Ha ha main Nepotismatic hoon
    Kisi ke baap…?
    Ha ha main Nepotismatic hoon
Inspired from Shaukeen Akshay kumar Alcoholic song.

  • Nepotism is probably the reason Abhishekh Bachchan, a talented actor in his own right, still gets offered film roles despite his career never taking off, he always be seen as the son of Big B.

  • Hrithik abhisekh shahid and ranbir are the only one who were damn tallented and are not the product of nepotism. Rest yes but they quickly vanishes. Vivek Oberoi again was tallented in a particular kind of role but he project himself in such a image that he was never good in any other role even if u consider his hit sathiya and critically aclaimed social drama YUVA. Now vivek as a gangster was a totally different from vivek as a comedian a lover boy or a simpleton. He doesnot shows the versatality. Ranbir is most versatile of all while hrithik suits more a stylish role. Well when it comes to brooding dark performances if anyone can rival devgan than it has to be abhisekh. Given a chance and a role he can be very good at comedy but ranbir will always be better but hrithik lacks in this department. Among these 4 Hrithik has tested the super stardom but is now lying pretty low and doesnot seems to catch it anytime soon, ranbir has tested the stardom and is touted to be future superstar and best bet among all new stars, abhisekh was touted to be next big things but his choice of movies let him down, also it was unfair for him to be compared to the biggest superstar of the millenium mr. AMITABH Bachchhan. SHAHID hang somewhere in between he was considered powerhouse of talent, was preety good allrounder yet he never make it to the top but unlike Abhisekh he still have a chance to figure it out among top 5 in near futurw. Well apart of these 4 sonam shines in Nirja and Arjun Kapoor shines in ki and ka, ishqzade and 2 states but he often flickers than not. Definetely Arjun is more tallented than Sonam but still we doubt hasnot he beeb a product of nepotism would have made it to bollywood or not. In the same generation kareena also had the spark to made it big to bollywood. She rocks as a performer and was above average in terms of looks. Fardeen khan zayed khan and many all were product of nepotism. Lets be fair they all got a chance due to their surname but beyond that its a talent that keep them going. Shahid Kapoor is a brilliant actor and u cannot say he is product of nepotism. Abhisekh Bachchan still gets movie because he is a damn good actor. Look at him in sarkaar 2, sarkaar, yuva, guru, bluffmaster, refugee, bol bachchan, happy new year he stands tall complementing his surname. Well ranbir in barfi, rocket singh, adhm, wake up sid, hrithik in koi mil gaya, lakshya & shahid in kamine, haidar were damn excellent. Actually we should feel proud of having such actors instead blaming them their existence being due to nepotism. They still exist because of their enormous talent regardless of their surnames. Who didnot have they vanishes like dinasours. So lets give them their due whenever they deserve. Thanks.

  • Credit for what? These bollywood families believe in hum hi kamayenge aur hum hi khaenge, outsiders not allowed unless they are extremely lucky or extraordinary tallented..

  • whats there to debate about? all that anyone needs is an opportunity & star kids get them easily. what they do with it is a totally different topic but the bottomline is they get the opportunities that others rarely get.

  • Dear Ranbir, thanks for being candid, but you missed the whole point……a star kid is not only introduced, but is backed up by the whole industry as if s/he is a superstar already…….a single hit, and they and their paid media hype it up to the sky.

Yes, we do accept people who have talent……that’s why you are sitting there,…..and since you have not displayed that talent in the recent times, that’s why your movies are flops and average nowadays……accept it.

I guess Kangana has hit KJO and his folks really hard where it hurts……and hence all his “well-wishers” are coming up with support and crap logic to justify their existence.

  • Which “success” is he talking about? Jagga Jasoos “success” ? Btw, he must now be arranging money to pay back the distributors as promised….and as expected…

  • Hats off to Kangna once again for nailing this point right into the wall. If every academic admission and job interviews are reserved for only the generations of the ruling heads, how will the good and exceptional talents ever excel?
