Son Of Sardar has done well at the box office, despite competition from Jab Tak Hai Jaan. While the first extended week belongs to the Shahrukh Khan starrer, Ajay Devgn’s SOS has managed to beat the film during the weekday (Monday, Tuesday).
It will be interesting to see if JTHJ can overtake SOS in the second weekend.

Well done ajay d and SOS team. Not only a moral victory but also a hard -fought victory against YRF & SRK. SOS will anyway join the 100 crore club but unfortunately its life time collections will not be very high, but still a happy result nonetheless.
Bhai fans will even support RGV’s film if it clashes with SRK’s…
IMO, SOS has comprehensively beaten JTHJ. For several reasons..
JTHJ had much bigger starcast, bigger director, bigger music composer (who gave one of his worst music in a long time) and unfair advantage of Yash Chopra’s death.
Even with almost everything in it’s favour.. 8 days later, the difference is only about 15%.. but when you consider that SOS had released on 25% fewer screens and had some poor performing single screens in that.. its a huge win for SOS.
Slap on the face of Yashraj Films.. and reality check for SRK, whose popularity in India has hit a 20 year low.
Youtube likes, views, Facebook likes, Twitter trends.. JTHJ can take all those records.. but when it comes to those that ultimately matter, the BOX OFFICE COLLECTIONS.. it has failed to live upto expectations.
Forget about Ek Tha Tiger or 3 Idiots.. this film might just struggle to beat 5 year old Ghajini.

Today ajay d gave tough competition to srk and came out with flying colours, tomorrow it may be ranbir or emraan or even the lovely vidya balan with her female oriented movies. I think Chennai Express will prove SRK’s star power. He will be coming in a very commercial film directed by the king of commercial cinema rohit shetty. If shahrukh cannot produce huge numbers (huge is 120cr +) his star power is on the decline

Distributor paid 3.20 cr in CP Berar to release SOS and its business as of now is around 3.60 cr. Going by current trend, film will not able to cross4-4.10 cr nett which means a distributor share of at max 2.90 or 3 cr. Nizam distributor paid 2.70 cr and he is even struggling to get 1 cr share out of it due to low collections of 2-2.50 cr. Except Rajasthan, CI and East Punjab rest 9-10 territories will fail to recover investment. This is the same case what happened with “Ra.One” last year. Both film failed to made money for ultimate guy though makers cum stars walked happy with big advertisement in newspaper. Fans rejoiced and media over after the due coverage done in limited payment. But distributor left bleeding and paying for the inflated ego of the stars. 22 cr of marketing and the real budget is said to be even higher than that (one medianet insert in a city costs 15 lakhs..SOS had 7 cities and innumerable inserts plus full page ads!!!!). Actual budget in excess of 90 cr which is said to be 87, where are the returns..maximum share of 7 cr from overseas and 50 from domestic will put film at least 30 cr in minus. Then there are more to it which is not appropriate to discuss here.
Oindicine team i ve question to ask i:e 8.50 as a 1st day collection of sos is shown on wikipedia n boxofficeindia while u are showing 10.72 n so is with jthj .12:25 is shown as 1st days collection n u are showing 15.which figure should be beleived.
Son of Sardar’s Box Office Verdict: Flop (Explained)
According to Box Office Capsule, Son Of Sardarhas failed to recover its money in almost 8-9 Territories in India.
Film sold to Eros at distribution rights of 68crs worldwide
and actual budget of the film was around 90crs, in this 25-30crs was only marketing budget.
Except CI, Rajasthan and punjab film failed to recover its Money. Overseas business will give it share of 7crs maximum.
It need to collect 61crs share from indian boxoffice only. But at max it can do 50crs share. Means 11crs loss.
1) In CP berar Distributor paid 3.20crs for SOS,but lifetime share will not cross 3crs in this territory.
2) In Nizam, Distributor paid 2.90crs, but itfailed to recover even 1.5cr from this territory.
3) Same going for Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Mysore and other circuits. Film will fall less in these territories.
MUST READ: This is the main reason for increasing 300 single screen theatres in its second week, in order to recover its money.
Over all film was needed to collect above 130crs to call a success, but makers claiming its budget as low and establishing it as a Success.
Ajay’s decision to clash with SRK is not worked for movie, JTHJ which is in profits right from 7th day. SOS still failed to recover its huge costs.

Distributors lose money , not the stars or producers or even theatre owners. all of them laugh all the way to the bank , except for the poor distributors . Why they pay such inflated costs to the producers to distribute the movie is beyond me.
