French ambassador Dominique Girard said that the French Government will be awarding Shah Rukh Khan, a very talented actor with unmatched popularity, with the honour of the Officier dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters) for his contributions to the development of Indo-French Co-operation in the field of cinema.
The French government presents the Officier dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres award to people who have distinguished themselves by their creativity in the field of art, culture and literature or for their contribution to art in France and other parts of the world. Some other Indians like artist S.H. Raza and author Mahasweta Devi are the ones who have received this honour before.
