Shah Rukh Khan Vs Amitabh Bachchan

Will the cold war between Srk and Big B?ever end, or is it all ?just media created?

Today I was surprised to read the news that the Big B and SRK have finally brought the subtle war of words they have been having for the past few months into the battlefields of our newspapers and TVs. I say its about time that they settle the matter of who is truly the King of Bollywood, is it the self proclaimed King Khan or is it the Big B?

Before the game begins lets get to know our two contestants, Amitabh Bachchan or Big B (as he is more popularly known) started his acting career way back in 1969 and has been continuing ever since (except for a 5 year semi-retirement starting in 1992). He however made a comeback in 1997 and regained his popularity in 2000 when he became the first host of the Indian Who Wants to Be A Millionaire, Kaun Banega Crorepati.

On the other hand Shah Rukh Khan or King Khan (as he likes to call himself, most people call him SRK) who started his acting career in 1988 on TV before making an entry into Bollywood. He then went on to make THAT movie…Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge…the penultimate Bollywood love story which has been running in one cinema in Mumbai for 12 years! Not that the Big B didn’t make some memorable movies, take Sholay for example, that has to be the greatest Bollywood movie ever made and has been noted to be so with Filmfare (India’s most prestigious award show) naming it the best film of the last fifty years in their 50th show apart from being India’s highest grossing film.

Now that we know a little bit about the contestants lets see what the war entails. The news quoted SRK saying “I’m cool, hip, sexy and wonderful” as well as taking a swipe at the Big B by stating “That was your generation, this is mine.” Well spoken like a true prince fighting for the right to be enthroned! But what did Big B have to say to all this, “If you want to do an honest comparison, you should wait for him to get to 65 and then see how he fares with the box office king at that point in time.” A valid point…..so until SRK turns 65 we should put an end to this matter and just bask in the glory of these two screen legends of Indian cinema.
