Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has been sentenced to five years in jail. Half the jail term is under the serious charge of ‘culpable homicide not amounting to murder’.
Since he has been sentenced to more than 3 years, the actor will have to apply for bail at the Bombay High Court. Unfortunately, the Bombay High Court will be on a 4-week summer break, which starts this Friday. The vacation bench is likely to hear his bail plea.

The Mumbai Sessions Court also found him to be guilty of all chargers that were filed against him. The charges are:
1. Salman Khan is charged under IPC sections 304 part II (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) which attracts upto 10 years in prison. This is the most serious charge.
2. 279 (rash and negligent driving) which stipulates six months jail;
3 and 4. 337 & 338 (causing hurt by act endangering life and causing grievous hurt respectively) with punishment up to two years
5. 427 (mischief causing damage to property) with maximum punishment of upto two years.
6. Sections 34 (a), (b) read with 181 (driving vehicle in contravention of rules) and
7. 185 (driving at great speed after consuming alcohol).
8. Salman Khan is also charged under sections of Bombay Prohibition Act relating to driving under influence of alcohol with maximum six months’ jail.

Wow, 5 years!!! First I have nothing against Salman Khan, but only for a few foolish fans of him.
SK just made a mistake, it could happen to everybody. I am not saying that he doesn’t need to be punished, but 5 years is to much. Because SK was already ashamed of his act and tried to help and make his mistake right. It would be been better if the judges would let SK help the relatives for the rest for their lives, be it with money or socially. That should have been real justice.

@Baap of all khans this crime has not done intentionally but an accident (definitely his carelessness) still it was crime under law. But 5 years punishment is too harsh. Maximum 1 year jail and 25-30 lacs as a compensation would be fair. Victim will not get back even salman get 20 years jailed but at least their family members get something for future.
