In just one day, Bollywood megastar Salman Khan’s Prem Ratan Dhan Payo has surpassed the weekend business of films like ‘Gabbar Is Back’ (which had one partial holiday and one full holiday), ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’, ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’, ‘Baby’ and several others films.
There are other staggering facts. The lifetime collections of Shaandaar (which collected Rs 42 cr) has been destroyed on Day 1 itself. A big-budget film like ‘Bombay Velvet’, which finished with 25 crore lifetime, was trounced by around 6PM on Thursday, with more than 30% of shows still to go!
The collections were also two times more than the second day business of Brothers and first day business of Singh Is Bling – both released on national holidays.
These records are even more staggering when you consider these facts
- Prem Ratan Dhan Payo was Salman’s second release in 4 months. His last film Bajrangi Bhaijaan released on July 17.
- In terms of star cast, Salman had absolutely no support. In fact, the cast was a negative for the film. Salman’s pairing with Sonam wasn’t liked. Neil Nitin Mukesh and the rest of the cast do not have any value as far as a box office initial is concerned.
- Apart from the star cast, the genre wasn’t favourable either. Family dramas do not get a initial in today’s times and the music also didn’t do as well as it should. The only factors that were in favour of PRPD was the title track going viral and Sooraj-Salman reunion. Of course, a holiday is a huge advantage for any film, but like we have seen in recent times, not every actor can take advantage of a big holiday.
In short, Salman Khan has once again reigned supreme at the box office. He’s the undisputed numero uno star in the industry today, not just because of a film like Prem Ratan Dhan Payo taking a record start, but also because he has consistently raised the bar. The genre, star cast, director, promotions or release period, does not matter!

Ok heres my take not review of PRDP
In first place we have MPK
In second place we have HAHK
In third place its a tight photo frame finish but due to more light hearted moments I place HSSH ahead of PRDP in 4th place.
Sorry to my fellow bhai fanatixXx but as a moviegoer with 20 yrs solid experience I have seen many great films but this isnt one of them. It falls way below the first 2 Sooraj ji outings and thats no criticism of bhai but of Sooraj jis casting director…!
Last time I felt this disappointed was ironically last Diwali when my mythological king charlie didnt arrive with his 300cr storm.
Editing was extremely weak- if it was me then I could have cut away all the scenes featuring Arman Kohli.
The song ‘aaj unse milna hai’ was my fav n interestingly I went to the cinema thinking ‘aaj unse (prem) milna hai’ and boy oh boy did Prem bhaiya light up the screen in each n every scene.
PRDP is unlike any film of last 10 yrs- perhaps never again will we see 1 actor dominate a film from start to finish like prdp. When Prem leaves 1 scene you ate instantly wishing for his return ASAP.
I got my tickets for tonight with my family n extended family bcoz a second watch is a must but being fair I will rate the movie as of now before I get swayed so its a tight 2.5/5.
God forgive me but thats what I believe it deserves bcoz my expectations were of a 5/5 but it fell too short.
Word of advise to those who havent seen it yet- forget all about MPK or HAHK n just go to watch the film as an independent film like its from a newbee director- do than n you may praise Sooraj ji as a genius of todays times.

Salman Khan is superstar numero uno and unlike others he does not need big time actresses to try to make a comeback, it was stated that the youth would not even go to see the movie and practical all the morning shows were mostly young people, now watch and wait and see how they are going to change their mode of dress and return to the indian culture and not copy cat other nations, it was a joy to watch the older ones enjoy the movie as they for the first time in a long time see a film that is totally indian culture, dress, music etc. and not have to watch unclad females and vulgar dancing item numbers. This was a breath of fresh air, and as for the film too long a Salman Khan film can never be too long for his fans. Congratulations now raise it even higher with SULTAN.
