Bollywood megastar Salman Khan turns 51 today. Currently at the very peak of his career, Salman continued his extraordinary run at the box office this year with Sultan – currently the year’s highest grosser. No other film through the entire year, until the release of Aamir Khan’s Dangal, had been able to collect even half of what Sultan did.
The actor who began his career with a supporting role in ‘Biwi Ho To Aisi’ went on to deliver the biggest blockbuster of the 80s in Sooraj Barjatya’s ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’. Salman followed it up with yet another terrific decade, topping the 90s with ‘Hum Aapke Hain Kaun’ along with other hugely successful films like ’Karan Arjun’, ‘Hum Saath-Saath Hain’ and ‘Biwi No 1’.

While the 2000s was a lean patch, Salman did what very few actors have achieved. He came back stronger with films like ‘Wanted’, ‘Dabangg’, ‘Ready’, ‘Bodyguard’, ‘Ek Tha Tiger’, ‘Kick’, ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ and ‘Sultan’. All films were blockbuster barring his fourth film with Sooraj Barjatya, which did well enough to cross the 200 crore mark.
2017 could well be the biggest year of his career, as Salman has two mega releases during two of the biggest weekends – Kabir Khan’s Tubelight during his favourite weekend Eid and Ali Abbas Zafar’s Tiger Zinda Hai during the biggest weekend of the year Christmas. Both potential 300 crore plus grossers.
When it comes to sheer fan-following and the kind of craze that his films generate – from the biggest of cities to the smallest of villages – Salman is the benchmark of super-stardom. A man whose presence is bigger than the director, co-stars, script and the film itself.

if @sss and @ javed’s comment can be published then why not mine. i know i should not have used that kind of words but i think that is the only way to deal with srkians. i have first used that word against srk earlier after seeing comments of srk fans like you and @ xzone in the salman and rajnikanth article and at that time i decided i will never use it again, but @ sss and @ javed forces me everytime to use it .
i have manytimes explained with logic that why salman gets those festivals . salman really does not need eid to beat srk. in 2011 his non holiday release ready was a bigger grosser than christmas release don2 which is known for delivering all time grossers, even ra one with 5 day long holiday weekend was also beaten. so ofcourse everyone in trade want him to release his films on festivals but srkians like @ sss and @ javed can’t digest it. so the only way to make them understand is to insult . but one thing i promise that i will never use the word i have used today against srk in future, no matter how much a particular user insults salman but i will continue to post my honest views about boxoffice in this website.
as far as current standing is concerned aamir is the number 1 star and dangal has proved it with salman being number2 and deepika is at number3. there is no point of discussing about the other’s as they are way behind. and i honestly believe it that srk has never been a superstar in the domestic market whethwr it is today or even in 2000-09 decade or 90-99 decade. he is a huge star in overseas but he has always been a average star in the domestic market. he never reached the range of stardom where salman has reached today. these are my honest views and i have nothing against srk.
@ sss srk has no opening record and that is the ultimate truth. he can never cretae any record beacause he is the real recordless actor. salman has 4 opening day records, 6 all time weekend records and 5 first week records this decade while srk has 1 opening day record, 1 weekend record and 1 first week record this decade. srk each and everytime fails to bring audience to the theater and finally he ends up manipulating collections to show that he can beat salman. if happy new year would have really done 44.97 crore on day 1 and k3 has done 244 crore nett then srk and hritik would have not been in a position they are today.
salman still holds the highest opening day record with prdp and highest weekend and first week record with sultan , while aamir holds the highest single day record and lifetime record, and your so called megastar does not have a single film in the top five all time opening weeekend whether it is the domestic market or worldwide market.
