It was earlier reported that Akshay Kumar’s Independence Day 2015 release would be directed by Neeraj Pandey. However, the press statement has revealed that the film will mark the directorial debut of Tinu Suresh Desai.
Back in 2013, Tinu was signed to direct the third film in the ‘1920’ horror franchise. When that film did not happen, Tinu started scripting a romantic thriller, which was later titled ‘Rustom’.
He was keen on signing Akshay Kumar, who agreed to do the film.
In the statement, Neeraj Pandey had said “When Tinu narrated ‘Rustom’ to us, we immediately got hooked to the quality of the narrative and its potential and instantly decided that it was something that we would like to produce. We also really felt that given the nature of the story, Akshay would be the perfect fit and him agreeing to come on board will definitely give it the canvas it requires”
Rustom releases in theatres on August 12 2016.
Clash will not happen.
Mohenjo-Daro would easily open bigger than Rustom, it is Ashutosh’s dream project, and he waited for years to get Hrithik’s dates for it. Hrithik has given record openings with his last few movies, Agneepath broke opening day record, Krrish 3 broke single day record, Bang Bang got one of the top 5 biggest openings despite clash with Haider. On the other hand, Rustom will be directed by a debut director, and Akshay hasn’t been lucky in recent memory as far as big openings are concerned.
Hrithik and Akshay are friends, and there is no logic reason for team Rustom to clash with Mohenjo-Daro as the Independence Day isn’t a festival and offers only 1 holiday unlike Eid, Diwali and Christmas which have multiple holidays due to festive season. I think it was just a promotional strategy by team Rustom who wanted to raise people’s eyebrows and get the publicity to promote the film, it will eventually find another release window, it would be better for both teams.
Disappointed lil bit.. anyway If they story is good & the director is talented then Tinu Suresh will surely give his life for the movie to make it better like every new talented director. anyways still should not clash with MD as 15th aug is not big release date like EID, Christmas, Diwali or even 2nd oct.. so it should postpone to any of these festival . if they’ve already decided to clash it is better to clash on big Festival at least will get some advantages . i would prefer it to postpone to Christmas.. don’t worry about Mangal Pandey 2. Darr ke maare Chotu Khan Bhag jayega jaise Khiladi 786 se aur even Vidya Balan Ki movie se bhaga tha Laash ke Time,i mean Talaash k time.

But this time it’s not akki but jadoo boy who needs to worry. Akki will anyways have 2 super hits in 2016 and one average or below average movie won’t matter. Mohenjodaro will struggle to earn semi-hit tag coz of huge budget not something that the makers deserve for 2 years of hard work.
Hrithik beta, u have a sure shot flop now. Bang bang struggled to earn semi-hit tag on clashing with flop boy shahid’s Haider. This time u r clashing with khiladi Kumar who has already given 3 hits in this genre. Surely your film will earn more than rustom because u’re having a release after 2 yrs whereas Kumar is having release after just 2 months. But MD will surely fail to recover its huge budget due to the clash.
