Rustom is one of the most profitable films of the year, as the Akshay Kumar starrer could finish with distributor’s share of around 60-65 crore against an investment of 39 crore for the domestic theatrical rights of the film.
The cost of production of Rustom was 53 crore with around 15 crore spent on print and marketing (total 68 crore). But to keep things simple, the verdict will be given based on the domestic collections (which is what matters the most). The India theatrical rights were sold for 39 crore, so the film recovered all its investment when it crossed the 75-80 crore mark.
The film was declared a clean theatrical hit in its first week itself when it crossed the 90 crore mark. Rustom should eventually cross 120 crore and attain super-hit status.

@ Indicine: You rated Rustom with 2 stars and average critics rating was 2.6. WOM for Rustom was not as good as Airlift, Neeraja or Sultan. All Akshay Kumar film’s struggles to cross 100 crores and his highest grosser is 134 crores. Rustom is no masterpiece but a very ordinary average movie. Trailer just brings good first weekend collections but the rest depends on movie content which is average. Then why is it doing good business & grossing more than 100 crores even after a clash with a big movie like MD? Something is really fishy in trade circles. Is it not that the trade has made everything possible to bring down MD and give Rustom big boost. What it could be?

@AMIR KHAN the biggest proof is an article of @INDICINE which shows that top actors of Bollywood at the time from 2001-2009 SRK has the more no of hits domesticaly and at overseas, hence the box office collection was in the court of SALMAN KHAN due to increased no of films but the success ration of SRK career at that time was much bigger than SALMAN KHAN and AMIR KHAN 59% to be exact . But my reason for the previous message was also to reduce the negativity around the star and not to proof any thing. AMIR and SALMAN are mega stars and way ahead of SRK at the ticket window ..and by the way “HE HAD TO GIVE THEM A CHANCE , BECAUSE A FLOP AFTER 15 YEARS IS A RECORD IT SELF” ;)

No one can even dare this literallt his total collections in previous year -527 crore
And akshay last three releases combined cannot beat this and if u take 12 months duration as a year than salman has three films with 200 crore net back to back and two 300 crore
And his one year collection will be -321+206+302=829 net crore ..hope u understand mathematics
