Anil Ambani’s Reliance Entertainment has announced that they would back the Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Rustom’, which would the first film under ‘Plan C Studios’ that has been formed in association with Neeraj Pandey’s Friday Filmworks.
The film is said to be a ‘period drama’ that will be directed by Tinu Suresh Desai.
“This relationship is in line with our continuing strategy in media and entertainment business of partnering with like minded and successful individuals while also playing the role of supportive investors on our part,” said Amitabh Jhunjhunwala, group managing director of Reliance Group.
“The combination will benefit from the creative and production strength of Friday Filmworks, and leverage the global marketing and distribution capabilities of Reliance Entertainment” said a statement from Reliance Entertainment.
Previously, Reliance Entertainment has produced, distributed and released over 170 films in multiple Indian languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Bengali. Internationally, it has partnered with producer and director, Steven Spielberg for over the past seven years.

b4 the release of dilwale and bajirao mastani… lot of ppl were spreading negativity about both of them… but i said it that dilwale and bajirao both will be successful at boxoffice and actual both are successful at boxoffice dilwale – semihit and bajirao – hit…. so rustom (due to akshay kumar’s performance and all the other cast also neeraj pandey’s screenplay, dialogues and production) will be hit and mohejo daro (hrithik’s performance, ar rehman’s music and ashutosh gowarikar’s direction) will be super-hit… go haters keep on burning get a life…
if AIRLIFT would star other actors then it may have collected big but it wouldn’t have been a great movie. You know what I mean. Rise above hate and appreciate a good movie and not collections because Bollywood is for entertaining with great cinema collection toh LIC wale bhi bohot karte hai.

I would like to see other stars deliver 80 cr opening for an offbeat film without any commercial ingredients? Hater like it or not airlift is clean superhit worldwide with 2000 screens with a clash with franchise and only 1 day holiday. Also the director new production was his banner, actress not an established star, supporting cast unknown.
Why people want akshay to postpone rustom to another date so hrithiks film can hav free ride? Why not hrithiks move his film? IMO both film should realease since past has shown two movies can work during holiday period, akki doesn’t hav that risk budget wise but for a niche film it’s a big risk for him to postpone as as such films can benefit highly from a festive release. Hope akki doesn’t move his films he’s done far two many favours for other stars, ouam2 was announced first for Eid release but the producers postponed it for chennai express and it suffered later, no more favours anymore. I know indicine will agree with this post.
Industry is so bitter towards akki and ajay, when ajay announced SOS for Diwali release media was after him like crazy despite SOS had to release on holiday because it had high budget and srks film was safe before release, same with akki industry is bitter when he wants to capitalise his film on big holiday
