Time to answer some questions from readers as part of our ‘QnA’ section. We answer a few questions on the release date of Dangal, the future after the ‘Khans era’ and a few more.
Q. What is the release date of Aamir Khan’s Dangal? Will it get a Christmas release like most other Aamir films?
A. While Aamir Khan has said in a couple of interviews that his next is Dangal, the film hasn’t yet been officially announced. So it doesn’t have a release date as of now. Trade sources say, Dangal is not commercial entertainer to take advantage the Christmas weekend that extends to New Year. So Aamir might release the film on some other weekend like Post-IPL, Gandhi Jayanti week etc. Stay tuned to Indicine for the official announcement and more on the final release date of the film.
Q. After the end of Khans era, will there be a tough fight between Hrithik Roshan and Ranbir Kapoor for supremacy at box office?
A. Too early to talk about actors who will be competing for the top spot at the box office. The Khans are likely to continue their dominance for a few more years. What the industry really needs is many more bankable stars. The more, the better! Ideally, 15-20 actors who can command a good initial will be fantastic. Currently, we only have about 8-10 actors.
Q. Who are the most promising newcomers? Please give Top 5.
A. Currently the most promising male newcomers are Varun Dhawan, Ranveer Singh, Sushant Singh Rajput, Sidharth Malhotra and Arjun Kapoor. Amongst female actors, there are many – Alia Bhatt, Parineeti Chopra, Shraddha Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, Yami Gautam.. just to name a few.
Q. Where was Imtiaz Ali’s Highway shot?
A. Finally a non box-office / star related question. Highway was filmed on the highways of Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan and Punjab.. Major portions of the film were also shot in the Aru Valley near Pahalgam and the Leh-Srinagar Highway, which is a fantastic place to do a road-trip!
Q. Deepika Padukone acted in Happy New Year and Yeh Jawani hai deewani. But both credits go to Shahrukh Khan and Ranbir Kapoor. Why are box office collections credited to male actors only? – Vinay
A. Unfortunately, Bollywood and most others film industries in India are male-dominated. The audience come to watch heroes, irrespective of their age, romance beautiful girls, sing songs and bash the baddies. Female-centric films, with the exception of erotic adult films, don’t even get a initial at the box office. Kangana Ranaut’ Queen opened at 1.85 crore, Kahaani was around the same. Even a solo Deepika Padukone film might struggle to touch the 5 crore mark on Day 1.

After d Khans its Hritik. Unless he voluntarily retires his movies will b running d box office. He is choosy and classy. For those saying Hritik will fade…so why Aamir despite doing d least films among his mates is still Arguably d creator of d 3digit crores like it or not that fact is there. @indicine..u guys know d position u rank Aamir khan n so do we. 27years average of 1 movie in 3yrs n still d biggest so why won’t Hritik continue his reign wit good scripts and his talent? Ranveer new comer…2010 Ranb kap 2008…wars d difference? Career wise? Age gap us small…n almost same numb of movies? Then wen did Hritik start? 2000….eight years before RK? Akki 17 years Ajay 17years Srk 16years A amir/Salman 20years before RK!!! But just like media created dudes ….they r 2generations now dominating Hindi cinema…1. Remember, Fan is likely to be completed before Rohit Shetty’s next but still it could go to next year as festive release are usually commercial entertainers with a mass thorugh n through appeal!!!

Mary kom a Female oriented movie of Priyanka chopra opened to 8.5 crores on Day 1 why dont u say that indicine also even 7 khoon maaf a movie which wasnt a hit did a business around 3.5 crores on 1st day n was declared a below average film however Mary kom n fashion were big hits for her n hopefully her other films will open bigger n better in the days to come…

Just because Talaash, Dangal, Raees, Fan would not cross 100, 200 crore figures, doesnt mean they are flops….ofcourse costing in such films is important as they tend to me targeted towards high end multiplex audiences and mass adience doesnt watch such films in big nos….
Talaash cost was around 45-50 cr and the film did 95 cr net in India…..so it wasnt a huge hit but a successful venture nevertheless…..plus the target audience really liked the film as well…..

What is the pre-release buzz of Bombay Velvet like? It seems like there is a lot of negativity being spread about the movie in the industry. There were articles released saying that the movie hasn’t shaped up well and rumors were being spread that Raveena Tandon walked out of the movie.
