Ranbir Kapoor has the best line-up of upcoming films amongst actors in the industry. He has signed films with the biggest of directors and for someone who has already proved his mettle at the box office, he looks set to challenge the Khans for a place at the top. Each of his films in the next two years looks promising.
Here is the list of all the upcoming films of Ranbir Kapoor in 2015 and 2016:
Roy (Ranbir Kapoor’s Next Film)
- Release Date: 13th Feb 2015
- Cast: Ranbir Kapoor, Arjun Rampal and Jacqueline Fernandez
- Director: Vikramjit Singh
Written and directed by debutante director Vikramjit Singh, Roy is a romantic-thriller which would have Ranbir and Arjun Rampal pinned against each other and Jacqueline Fernandez portraying a double role for the first time. The film’s USP lies in the less experimented thriller genre and its music which is being given by Ankit Tiwari and the Meet Brothers. Also, since Ranbir did not have any release in 2014, this one would be the film that his fans have been waiting for – even though there are reports that he only has a limited role to play. T-Series is cleverly marketing it as a Ranbir Kapoor film.
Bombay Velvet (2015)
- Release Date: 15th May 2015

Undoubtedly one of the most anticipated movies of the year, Bombay Velvet is a film-noir drama film which stars Ranbir and Anushka with Karan Johar making his full-fledged acting debut. The movie was due to release in December last year but its release was delayed as Kashyap felt that work was needed to be done in the post production department. The film is being touted as Anurag Kashyap’s first mega-budget film and with Karan Johar being the villain, its buzz is surely going to be sky high.

- Director: Anurag Basu
Ranbir’s third film of the year, Jagga Jasoos would see him play a detective who is in search of his missing father – a role that will be played by Govinda. The film will reunite the director-actor pair of Ranbir and Anurag Basu after delivering the highly appreciated Barfi. The film will also be jointly produced by them under their own banner, Picture Shuru Productions. Ranbir would also be working with his girlfriend Katrina Kaif for the first time since the couple confessed about their relationship.

The film is currently locked for release during the ‘Christmas’ period, but there are reports that Tamasha could be postponed to a later date. After ‘Rockstar’ and ‘Highway’, the music of the Imtiaz Ali film will be composed by A.R. Rahman once again.
Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016)
- Release Date: June 3 2016
- Cast: Ranbir Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Anushka Sharma
- Director: Karan Johar
Yet another biggie. Karan Johar returns to direction with a film starring Ranbir, Aishwarya and Anushka. Speaking about the film, Karan had said “Love is the theme and conflict of my next directorial endeavor. When I worked with Ranbir and Anushka in Bombay Velvet, I knew their pairing and undeniable chemistry warranted another film and I am extremely excited to direct them. Ae Dil Hai Mushkil also fulfills my big dream to work with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. It is possibly her most unusual and contemporary character and I can’t wait to work with her. It is too early to talk about the film, but for now, all I want to say is that it is not a conventional love story or love triangle. It’s a film that dwells deeply on relationships, heartbreaks and how love completes you, defines you and yet leaves you wanting for more. I have never had, in my entire career, a film that has come to me so fast, so organically and so from within.”
Superhero film directed by Ayan Mukerji (2016)
- Release Date: December 23 2016
- Cast: Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt
- Director: Ayan Mukerji
Ranbir will be playing a mythological superhero in ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ director Ayan Mukerji’s next. The film, produced by Dharma Productions, will star Alia Bhatt. Talking about his role, Ranbir had said “I am excited to play the role of a superhero, but when we talk of superheroes, we just have one image — Spiderman or Superman. But he (Ayan) isn’t writing a film along those lines. I think it’s a fantasy-based film, a mythological in contemporary times. And it will have a boy who will have some form of superpowers. But right now, it’s too early to talk about it”.
Sanjay Dutt Biopic (201 6 or 2017)
- Release Date: Not announced
- Cast: Ranbir Kapoor as Sanjay Dutt, there are reports that Amitabh Bachchan could play Sunil Dutt
- Director: Rajkumar Hirani
We saved the best for the last! Ranbir Kapoor, Rajkumar Hirani, Amitabh Bachchan. It can’t get bigger or better than this, can it? The best director in the industry teams up with arguably the most natural actor in Bollywood. Ranbir would be playing Sanjay Dutt on-screen. There are also reports that Amitabh Bachchan could play Sanju’s father Sunil Dutt. It will be interesting to see how Hirani adapts the real-life story of Dutt’s colourful yet controversial life – Three marriages, accused of illegal possession of arms that were used in the 1993 Mumbai blasts, jail-term, drugs and a professional career filled with much-loved characters. 2016 / 2017’s most-awaited film undoubtedly.
We understand that it would be extremely difficult to pick just one from Ranbir Kapoor’s Upcoming film list (most would pick Raju Hirani film anyway), so we give you a chance to pick any TWO FILMS. Vote now for the film that excites you the most.
